ITP: Swap Meet

[Outside the Arts and Crafts hut, two young men sit on the ground ...crafting. Well, one of them is crafting, the other is just giving helpful suggestions.]

This is great but...I think we'll probably run out of materials before we make any money, this way...

*slows down as he passes by, tilting his head*

... what are you doing?

... a "monster," hmm. Perhaps.

- these? No, I am quite fine.

. . .is that wrong? I mean, when you see huge tentacles in the lake, usually you'd think it was a montster -- like a kraken or a leviathan or something similar. But I guess I haven't seen all of it.

O-oh. Well, if you're sure. I don't think I'd know how to help you, if you suddenly passed out or anything, and Edward's lunaglyph isn't for healing, either. And we don't have any healing items, or even any food left, so you'd be sort of out of luck. Er-- so it's good you're not hurt, anyway.

"Monster" is a term some would take offense to. Technically, one would simply call Ms. Marcy a kraken. ... regardless of all of that, she is quite the terror.

Mm, do not concern yourself with it - I am stronger than I look. ... lunaglyph? Is that a sort of magic ... ?

Ah-- sorry. I certainly didn't mean to offend anybody, least of all a giant...animal in the lake. I don't need her to be actually angry at me, or anything! [very weak chuckle, heh, my jokes, they are not good]

Ah-- yeah. Um...a lunaglyph is...a blessing, from our world's god. It gives you all sorts of skills or powers, depending on what the moon was doing, the night you were born. They're pretty useful.

*a-actually cracks a bit of a smile at that*

... simply be careful is all that I am saying. A number of the people here are not human and would be referred to as "monsters" in some places, but ... mm. In any case, as long as you stay a good distance away from the lake itself, it should be fine.

Interesting. Something unique to your own world, then - I had never heard of them before.

I will, thank you. I wouldn't want to -- I mean...I wouldn't call them names, anyway, if I knew better. You never know who you might accidentally hurt, right? And something like that...doesn't feel very good.

Yeah, I guess so. So...that means that. That. No one else here has one, then...[excuse me while I take a few moments to wrap my head around this]

*glances over at that first bit, pausing momentarily before speaking again*

Well, you certainly seem to understand that sort of thing much better than some who appear here. It is rather refreshing.

I have never heard of them in the years that I have been here.

Well, I think-- a lot of people don't think about that, most of the time, that somebody might be different from them, even if they look the same and sound the same. It's not the sort of thing people notice right off, anyway.

--Er, sorry. Um...nevermind. That wasn't important.

...Really. Huh. How about that. It's...really strange to think about. The people without them, back home, are...rare. So it's-- it's really weird to think that nobody else here...

You hardly need to apologize for that. ... for what it is worth, I am not human.

Mm, that is how it is here. There are things such as magic or abilities or places or what have you that, while so key to the lives of some, are completely foreign to others.

...Really? A-ah! I hope I wasn't-- I didn't mean to-- I hope it didn't sound like-- er. [sags] Sorry.

That's...going to take some getting used to. Although, to tell the truth, I'm sort of...excited to see how it turns out. If everyone here is unblessed...it certainly doesn't make them powerless.

- ah, no, it was ... fine. You were rather polite. It surprised me.

Unblessed? Is that what you call someone who does not have one of those, mm, glyphs?

slashing_canon October 21 2008, 22:54:04 UTC
...Yeah, um. Like I said -- the moon's phase determines how much power you have, right? I guess, people born on a full moon are supposed to be really strong. But if you're born on a night when there's no moon...they say it's because Veros has turned his back on you, and so...

Um, Robert-- if it's okay...how exactly are you not human? You look really normal. Er, if you don't want to talk about it, then I'm sorry -- You seem really nice. I wouldn't want to accidentally make you angry, or upset, or anything.

And so you are not blessed with such abilities ... mm, I see. I suppose that makes sense. ... interesting.

I do not mind it, although you will find that there are many like me who appear to be like the humans, but not. It is a difference in my abilities, my lifespan, what I can take ... my kind are more powerful than humans. That tends to be true for many of the nonhuman races here.

slashing_canon October 21 2008, 23:32:05 UTC
...Right.

Oh, I see...not human like that. I think I understand. Um, my world has...three races, I think -- the unblessed, like I said, and then the meages -- er, everyone else, I guess -- and the Aristos. I don't really know much about them, but apparently they're really powerful, and can use lunaglyphs really well. People say they have a longer life span too, but I don't really know why, since they used to be meages.

Sorry -- I don't really know enough about my own world, I think. Heh.

... hmm, I see. You are all simply different types of humans, then? Depending on these lunaglyphs of yours?

- ah, it is fine. Perhaps I am the one asking too many questions.
