Hiking in East Oregon
We went hiking in Eastern Oregon this weekend. We started out at Keeps Mill campground. We got in late, and camped at the bottom of a nasty road. In the morning, we decided to day hike along the gorge. After a relatively short while (distance-wise), we ran into some nasty, steep rock slides, and decided to try another area. If you're used to shopping for olive oil at a grocery store with 3L containers, but are in a lousy establishment with no such options, but consistent unit pricing, you may find the following conversion useful. 1¢/oz = $1/3L. So that option at 26¢/oz = $26 if it were a 3L option ( Read more... ) -
Project Euler
Well, I've decided to use project Euler as an excuse to learn Python, which is being pretty fun and easy to learn. It's definitely teaching me the value of a decent algorithm...
I've solved 1-11 thusfar, 12 is making me wonder why lists are sometimes being passed by reference, and sometimes not... -

It's nice to get out and walk around the neighborhood once in a while. I just bought a new lens and flash off craigslist (separately), so it seemed like a good time to enjoy some photography. Walks also make a great time to chat with Mary, who isn't home nearly as often as she used to be.

Spring Basin backpacking
A while ago, Mary and I visited the new wilderness area in Oregon, Spring Basin, on a 3 day backpacking trip with her parents and friends. I decided to haul my dSLR along for the trip, to see how plausible it is (for a potential trip to the Emigrant wilderness in CA) and to hopefully take some really nice pictures. Dancing
Mary and I just spent 17 of the last 52 hours dancing at Portland's Raindance (a contra dance weekend). It was amazing -- the band (Big Bandemonium) was hot, and the callers and dancers were great. The energy level was really high the whole weekend, and we had a blast. I don't know what else to say -- time for some precious sleep!
