Camelot is haunted, they say. Arthur certainly is. There are whispers everywhere. Dragoon the - self acclaimed - Great lurks in the shadows, emerging now and then with chilled words, more sour than ever.

The king is confined to his room, where he stares into the empty air and screams in fear of what he sees there. The ghost in the Prince Regent's room leaves dead woodworms in the drinking glass by the bedside. He never speaks of it. His servant George knows better than to mention any of this.

Gaius huffs at the mentioning of ghosts, but listens to every word they bring from Dragoon. He has Merlin's empty bone chest on a shelf among his many things. It startles many, but he only says; “It's an empty box, a box among others. Why does it make you feel uncomfortable?” He gets few replies.
Guinevere never speaks of the purple flower she put inside it. The one that never seems to wither.

When it all gets too heavy and bleak, Gwen packs a fine picnic basket. Arthur has found a way to sneak away, so they leave in a hurry. Trying to leave the unsaid things behind. Trying to get back to how they used to be. Before.

It is beautiful. It's perfect. The lake glitters in the sunlight, the birds sing. And shouldn't they have learned by now that this is when things go bad? They look up from their stolen bliss at the cloud across the sky and see their death. The Great Dragon. He lives!

Arthur leaps up in front of Gwen, sword in hand, but what good will it do against such a foe?

“You have ventured too far from the city, little King. This is not a wise thing to do. Who are to protect you out here?”

“You... speak?!”
Arthur glances at Gwen to confirm he has not gone mad, or at least not gone mad alone.

“Yes. You’d be wise to listen. I have come to ask you a question. Little king-to-be; I am not dead. Why do you still live?”

“What is it you want with us?”
Gwen's shout is desperate. The beast gives her a quiet nod.

“I answer to no king or queen, your highness. You had better remember that.”

“I.. am but a servant.”

The dragon laughs and takes flight.
