[For Roger]

Even though things with Nick were amazing at the moment, it was hard for Karen to remind herself that she did have good things in her life. Focusing on the good wasn't easy when she kept being punched in the gut with the bad on a constant basis ( Read more... )

"Hey," came Roger's voice from behind her, resting his hands on the back of the couch that sat in front of the third floor rec center. There was no person that could tell exactly why Roger was there (though it was close enough to the radio that he could steal away if it was needed), but his business didn't look too sinister by the look of him, and he was happy to see Karen, since he hadn't in some time.

"Whatcha gonna play?"

"Thinking about it," Karen replied, taking only a moment to place Roger's voice. It was one of the familiar ones, one that hadn't disappeared and was thus comforting, in a way.

She turned around on the couch, and gave him a quick smile. "You up for some Rock Band? I haven't really played in a while."

Which, of course, was half the reason for Karen's current apathy toward everything video game related. It was hard to play when she'd gone through just about every single one with Chuck playing along and commenting, or vice versa.

Roger hadn't played Rock Band in a while, either, of course that was because like half of the band had disappeared. In fact, now that he thought about it, he and Karen were probably the only two left--

--Oh.

True, the Island Well Hungarians had been an institution, and even though Roger had argued (and would still) that the game was the antithesis of music education, those jam sessions had meant a lot to him. Guitaring it up back-to-back with Serena, joining in on vocals with Karen, leaning in on Chuck's drum like they were actually playing music. These were vacations for Roger, and they must have been for Karen, too.

"Yeah," Roger said, decisively coming around to the front of the couch. "Let's kick some Rush ass." He sat down and bumped her shoulder, offering a smile for both their sakes.

Karen smiled and threw an arm over Roger's shoulders, giving him a quick hug. "I'm actually in a Styx kind of mood, but I'm definitely down for some ass kicking."

It wouldn't be half the same without Serena or Chuck there with them, but at least it was something to pass the time - and with Roger, it was, a the very least, fun.
