Closed: Travis - Sunday afternoon.

Feb 02, 2014 18:03

After a sleepless night which she spent thinking over every decision she'd ever made in regards to her relationships with Jake and Travis, Natalie couldn't take it anymore. She needed to talk to Travis face-to-face. It was bad enough that their friendship was crippled from their breakup but now bringing Jake into it made her feel awful ( Read more... )

It had been a long weekend so far, feeling just as shitty he did Friday night since he had parted ways with Jake. Normally he didn't mind weekends alone in his flat, mostly just relaxing and unwinding from a long week, but the last few days had just felt- well, lonely. No matter what he did he just couldn't seem to sit still, unable to distract himself with video games, comic books, or even work.

Late Sunday afternoon there was a knock at his door and he pulled himself off the couch, muting whatever mindless movie had been playing in the background, to went to answer the door. He was still wearing his pajama bottoms, a wrinkled white t-shirt, and scruffy from not shaving since Friday morning. Though, he really didn't care much-

Or he wouldn't have if it hadn't been Natalie on the other side of the door.

And he had a pretty good idea why she was here.

"Natalie-" he said, offering her an uncomfortable and tight smile. "I definitely wasn't expecting you."

Natalie only glanced at Travis' disheveled appearance enough to wonder if she looked equally as bad.

"You should have," she shot back, her arms crossed defensively, unable to hide the anger in her tone. It wasn't necessarily all toward Travis. "You punched Jake in the face and you expect me not to come find out what you were thinking? "

"I was thinking we hardly talk anymore and our little group fell apart ages ago," he told her, rather indignantly in fact. Though, he stepped aside anyway so that she could step inside.

Travis should have expected her. In fact, he was surprised she didn't turn up sooner now that he really thought about it.

"And that's a good reason to punch your best friend in the face for something that may not have even been his fault? " Natalie moved inside but stayed close to Travis, personal space be damned.

"I don't get it Travis."

How could she believe she could make things better?

"I've always been quick to forget all the bad things, " she turned away and took in the scene of Travis' living area. "I guess it's a weird sort of optimism."

What was her point? "It seems like you don't ever want to put any sort of blame on me and part of me wonders why."

When he turned around his face dropped, he could just kick himself right now. Of course Natalie was one of the only people who could pull him off of his very high horse, even after all these years and the space between them.

"I can't be mad at you," he sighed, watching her carefully as she studied his flat.

It hit him then that this may have been the very first time she'd been at his place. He wasn't exactly prone to throwing parties (mostly out of fear somebody would break his larger than necessary television or one of his many gaming systems) and they had just grown apart so much-

"It's guy code or something. I don't know."

"Why can't you be mad at me?" This time, her voice had more of an edge to it. Natalie needed a real answer. Maybe if he could be mad at her, he would be less mad at Jake and things could go back to as normal as they possibly could.

She took a seat on his couch and did everything she could to put on her most patient face. "There's obviously something keeping you from moving on with your life when it comes to me."

Well, that left him a little bit speechless. Travis had never known Natalie to beat around the bush but that was an issue he had been successfully avoiding for years now.

"No-. I'm not upset with you because we were broken up. We weren't even talking then," he reasoned, which was half true at least.

Travis sat down next on the couch but put enough space between them.
