If only more writers had as their aim "to enthral, delight and amuse readers"!

Indeed! Less self indulgence and showing off would be welcome.

I found some of her books a while ago and have read Villa in Italy, The Frozen Lake and one other that I can't remember - really enjoyed them. I think I found her when looking for something a bit like Elizabeth Pewsey; they aren't, but they have some similar pleasures.

May well have to get this one,

Went on thinking about this after I'd posted and remembered that no, she *is* Elizabeth Pewsey! (and that's why I started reading them - though they aren't quite like the Mountjoy books).

Really? She doesn't mention that on her Amazon author page. Obviously more famous than I thought.

I'm glad to know that you liked The Villa etc. because I was planning on reading them next. It's so nice to find a new author!

This was the first monthly book I had fancied for a while and now I am really looking forward to reading it.

Hope you like it! You show a touching faith in my judgement but we do very often enjoy the same books.

I have the utmost faith in your taste in literature (although I do recall you not liking Cranford!)
