Given the, ah, temperament of my laptop, I think I'm going to be doing a lot of reading over the next month or so, so does anyone have any book suggestions for me? I'd like a wide variety - something for every mood, if possible - and please don't think "well, she's probably read this already, so I'm not going to say it" because there's a lot of ( Read more... )

If you're interested in a feminist take on religion, Reinventing Eve is good. The Painted Drum by Louise Erdrich is wonderful, it made me cry and my mother loved it too. Kind of bleak, but with a happy ending. Ursula K. LeGuin's new series is wonderful too, have you read anything by her before? She is amazing.

I've tried to read some of Ursula K. LeGuin's stuff, but it just never really took with me for some reason. I've added the others to my list, though! ^_^

If you like fantasy, my favorite is The Herald Mage Series by Mercedes Lackey. I also have a huge list of gay centric books that is on my "to read" list. I got most of them off of recs on blogs. I can email you it if you want.

"Confessions of an Economic Hitman" by John Perkins, if you happen to be feeling cynical about our economic system and politics. Or if you want to learn more.

Maggie Sefton's mysteries are all pretty entertaining.
You might enjoy some of Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories. I warn you finding slashy subtext is unavoidable after reading too many of these. LOL
