To Elsie, Memorial Day had always meant a day off school and a barbecue with her neighbors. It had meant another day to sleep in, another day for her to put off doing her homework, another day for her to spend flirting with boys at the pool instead of focusing on more important things. She had always been vaguely aware and vaguely grateful for the sacrifice of American troops, but since nobody in her family had served, it wasn't a very significant day.
When she was in college, Memorial Day meant watching the Rolling Thunder parade and cheering at all the middle-aged bikers and police and firefighter pipe bands as they walked downtown under the sweltering summer sun, then going off and getting shit-faced with her friends in the name of patriotism.
Now that she's moved on, in more than one sense of the word, and now that she's with Steve, Memorial Day holds a completely different significance in her heart. True to her promise, she'd dressed up a little, picking out something that was a little nicer than her normal wear but not

"Yes way." She grins, thrilled with the simple joy of his company. "It has the word 'text' right there in it. Which is an activity you do with your cellular device."

He squints down at her. He's pretty sure Chin was sexting that woman with his eyes at the Governor's office...Right? Steve shrugs, leaning down to kiss his lovely, beautiful girlfriend on the lips. A nice slow, passionate kiss.
Not that she isn't enjoying this -- she is, very much, thank you -- but they're in the middle of the cemetery, and there are other families around them, paying their respects. Before the kiss can tumble too far out of PG territory, she pulls away a little, nipping his lower lip lightly. "Steve, we're in public."
SOOOOO..I can't handle my liquor. i passed out. WHATTUP? last day here though :[calledmechampMay 31 2011, 10:55:07 UTC
He suddenly felt embarrassed. A pink shade tinted his cheeks as he glanced around from under his cover at the people staring at them. Steve took her hand and pulled her towards the Vets Brunch tent; a massive white tent that had to house over a hundred tables. 5-0's was conveniently located near the stage.
ahaha NICE. awww, going home already!removethisworldMay 31 2011, 11:43:35 UTC
She grins at him and winks, enjoying his blush. Squeezing his hand as he pulls her along, she happily follows and lets him lead her to a table right near the stage. She'd be lying if she said it didn't make her a little self-conscious, but whatever. As long as it made Steve happy.
"Don't get yourself a lot of food, you're going to be eating my plate, too."
