And yes, he reached for the word so easily! Methinks it's not the first time he's reached for this word and thrown it at a woman he doesn't know, purely because he doesn't like what they're saying. So many other things he could have said, like "You're acting like someone ate all your cake" or "like someone stole your car". But no, he went for the rape comment. What an awesome person he is.
I thought it was clear the entire point of your poem was a humorously dramatized reaction to U2's album, likening it to something on the level of a physical assault-- and sure, not everyone has the same taste in humor so fair enough if he didn't care for it, but . . . if you can't say anything nice?? Especially since his indignation that you might use rape as a literary device just seems to suggest he's one of those fools who thinks women "cry rape" and exaggerate all the time.
I don't think there's much point in responding to him anyway, as if he's too dim to see the point in the poem anyway he's not likely to be effectively reasoned with, either.
Honestly, for the first couple of minutes I was really tempted to reply. Then I realised that sharing the comment with friends would make me feel much better, and engaging with a troll would make me feel much worse, so I chose the sensible option.
I actually do have a poem that touches on rape. I wonder what he'd make of that? Anyone who brings that context into something that is miles away from it... He just has some very strange attitudes.
I have gotten a lot better at ignoring than I used to be! I used to engage in so many unnecessary arguments. Now I try my best to just leave them alone!
He is a jerk. I've seen the worst criticism on youtube like, there was a woman demonstrating an exercise called preacher curls and a man complained about how her technique was all wrong (which by itself isn't that bad) but additionally made some sexual remark.
