I'm usually that way with series books, because I so need a break once I'm done. This one, if the books were in front of me, I'd be sorely tempted to read the next right after. It'll be interesting to see how long it takes me to finish the series so far...
Your review has made me want to get back into the series again. I had to stop reading after Outlander (published as Cross Stitch here) due to lack of funds, but now can't wait to finish what I'm reading now so I can start again.
I put of reading Cross Stitch for a long time too. I noticed it first as it was on the "Top 100" shelf and the local book store. But I grew up with Traci Harding's Ancient Future series and didn't want to ruin my love for that series with another time travel-ish series. Boy, I'm glad I did.
I absolutely love the characters in these books. I think Dragonfly in Amber may be my favorite; I have an odd preoccupation with Culloden and the Jacobite Rising. Gabaldon seems to be having a hard time finishing these books though, I found the latest installment a bit thin. Still won't stop me from picking up book seven, darn cliffhanger endings!
The Lord John books may be worth looking at as well. I thought The Private Matter was an entertaining, light read.
Wonder why they called it CROSS STITCH in the UK? I imagine the term "outlander" might have more offensive connotations in that neck of the woods, but why CROSS STITCH?
I've read every book in the series - there are five altogether, if I am thinking correctly - and am anxiously awaiting the next. I love this series because the characters are so realistic that they pop off the page, and it's romance but not cheesy romance. Jamie and Claire have a very real relationship, and it's refreshing to find that in this type of genre.
I'm glad I followed your link from epicfantasy because it's always fun to find another fan of this series. It's been...right at two years, no wait. Sheesh. More like -three- years, next year, since I started reading the series, and as of right now, I'm somewhere in the fourth novel. And these books are so good that I've stretched out reading them over so long a span so that I don't run out of them before the series is complete, hopefully. I find myself thinking of the characters from time to time, and I'm constantly impressed with Diana's writing skill. She has created real, memorable characters, and fascinating events to follow them through.
I usually take my time with series as well. That's what I'm doing with George R.R. Martin, especially since I know book #5 isn't even finished yet. No use rushing through...

Mmm, yes. The shiny is what made me love the icon. Two loves in one is always a bonus.
