There's always the idea of getting a membership to vote on what's nominated, giving you a chance to read what others thing is the best of the best. :)

I plan to eventually get a supporting membership for 2013 so I can vote on the Hugos, but since I already have one for 2012, I won't need the 2013 one until later in the year.

There's nothing wrong with nominating in only the categories you care about, even if it's just one. :)

I haven't read Railsea or 2312 yet, so this list is based at least in part on book reviews and authors' histories of getting nominated for the Hugos.

But if the ballot is as you predict, I'll have read 2 out of 3. I won't read the Bujold, because I'm BEHIND on that series, but I can probably deal with reading the other two.
