I really liked this book, though I read it when it was first released so I don't recall details right now.

Daryn is really funny and I liked the scenes with them training to use the walkers.

I simply adore her vernacular, you know? Stuff like "Barking spiders!" is hysterical to me! :) I want to go around saying that, just to see how people would react.

I flew through this, and writing a review so late was tough. As you can see, it's pretty sparse. :)

Oh boy do I hear you on the new covers. The overstuffed compositions and cheesy effects bring to mind bad heavy metal album covers.

I have this on reserve at the library. I figured I'd want to read the hardcover so I got the most of the pretty pictures.

I totally agree on the covers. They are absolutely terrible. I thought the original cover of the first one was pretty much nothing, it didn't really do anything for me, but it didn't bother me either. These new ones I think are awful.

"Barking spiders!" should indeed be the new epithet of choice. I think it's brilliant. Do you think if I introduced it to my 7-year old (well, he's seven on Saturday) it might take off?

I felt the same way about the first cover too. It was prettier in person, and then I saw the re-design? Ugh...

Seven-year olds are very impressionable. I bet it might!

Agreed on the new cover. It's awful, which may explain why this is still on my wish list.

It's seriously the reason I put off getting the book. If they'd have kept the same design, I probably would've bought it on my own, but I asked for it for Christmas instead. :)
