Sounds fun... I'll need to take a look into this.

I recently read something similar, a UF book which had an awesome ending but a rather blah first 3/4. Still, the ending reveal sold it that I'm considering reading book 2 if it comes out. Hopefully with a faster, more intriguing build in.

Rec for you: Adam-Troy Castro's Andrea Cort series. First book is "Emissaries from the Dead." Think SF setting with a mystery component and a brilliant if (mentally) tortured JAG who's half detective / criminal investigator, half lawyer. Beautiful cover as well imo.

Completely random funny thought: The ERASMUS System is a sprawling realm of slavery, smugglers, spies-and constant, creeping decrepitude.

Hahahaha. Where did that system go wrong from its lofty ideals? Even funnier considering that Solarians are known as Saints ... which apparently someone thought the inhabitants of Erasmus were going to be!

I don't the the Erasmus system was ever meant to be considered peaceful. It's only the Solarians, but the "saints" that come into the system are trying to make a better place. much like missionaries do in the real world.

The form of slavery in the Ersamus system is an interesting take, and a frighteningly logical one. If you read it, I can't wait to hear your thoughts!

I don't think of it fondly, but the ending is memorable enough that I doubt I'll forget it. If Anderson releases another title, I'll definitely look into it.

You know, I liked the book, but I also felt that it got WAY too convoluted at times. I especially got annoyed at the politics being blithely bandied about with no explanation of what the hell anything meant. :/ But the ending was really good, and I'll probably pick up the author's next book just to see if any of the writing issues have smoothed themselves out.

Agreed. Way to convoluted, but the ending went a long way in making the book worthwhile.

Out of curiosity, how long did it take you to really unravel the political situation in the Erasmus system? I was more than halfway through the book before I felt that enough info had been given.

To be honest, I can't remember. That's the bad part. :-/

I saw this one in the used book section at Harvard Bookstore this weekend. Pretty cover and like that it's supposed to be space opera but I put it back because I think I recall seeing a review where someone didn't like it. Glad I didn't get it for sure now. I think I'll get it from the library if I try it.

The ending is definitely worth it, but if you're worried, the library might be a good choice (though getting it used isn't a bad idea either).

I read another disappointing review on this one. Thanks for your honest opinion! I hope you enjoy Stolen! :)
