The City seems to be a sort of nexus of worlds and realities. The common belief is that the City feeds on things like angst and despair, etc. Hence the curses.

As for abilities, I know this place does change them a bit, some people can do more, some can do less. I can do pretty the same here as I did back home.

Curses this bad are not common at all from what I understand. But they do happen at least once a week or so. Sometimes they're harmless.

Common, I don't know. Is it possible? I would say definitely so.

And I'm a wizard, I do magic. Tracking spells, wards, exploding things, other various things.

There are very few things that aren't possible. Probable might be a better question.

Some curses are like that. They can be nothing, or they can be terrible. But those killed during a curse don't die in the true sense, they can still come back.
