Sadly, I really don't have any good dude pics from this afternoon. Everything came out as a crazy blur of activity, which is a reasonable representation of the day.
That cake sounded like a major ordeal- I was expecting the end result to look the way it would if I'd been wrangling with it- all jagged and wonky. But it looks bakery-perfect! Great job with the bow and the dots- I could never hope to manage such professional smoothness.
And those cookie lollipops are fabulous! It could be that they were/are a huge trend here, but I've never seen any. So cute! Plus MORE sticky decorationy prowess on those, as well.
The dude looks fantastic in his birthday finery, and I love the highchair lineup- very reminiscent of my family birthday parties when my cousins and I were all of highchair age. The activities look like great fun- I didn't know you could rent ball pits. All in all, a terrific party. Do you feel triumphant that it all went off so well, or just exhausted? :D
oh dear bob I was exhausted! :D I would also feel at a loss to say exactly why, if I were asked. I mean, yes, I was standing in the kitchen a whole lot, and stressing a lot over stupid things, but the running around at the party wasn't any more than usual with the dude. I was just wiped out when it was all over, though.
Thanks for the nice comments btw. I could only dream of one of my cakes looking as cute as one of yours tbh! (I think you'd do some really cute stuff with fondant. It's a lot like Femo, you could do little figures for a cake if you felt so inclined?)

thanks a lot Gaye! The birthday cake making WAS surprisingly stressful. Couldn't do chocolate (I probably would have given him a small bit, but he hasn't had chocolate yet and I've no doubt at least a couple of the other mums wouldn't have wanted them eating it) and just couldn't come up with a design to save my life. I was desperately trying to avoid having to pipe words onto it, as I just wasn't having any luck getting an icing to run properly. etc, etc.
Hopefully we'll get some nice messy pics in next Sunday. :)
I too think the cake looks great! When you mentioned fondant, I envisioned it covering the whole cake, similary to what they do here for wedding cakes. And my hair was standing on end thinking of you trying to smooth it all over a cake. I like the end result that you've done

yeah I thought I wasn't being very clear with my description. Now that I've worked with it a bit, I might attempt it again (NOT with the pre-colored version, good lord!) Thing is, I prefer buttercream for taste, so it'll be tough to come up with a reason to try using it. I'm certainly not going to do it next weekend for his home cake, as that'll just make things difficult for me
