From the “Say That Again?” Department: Headline seen on CNN: “Bush arrives in Texas; Residents urged to leave”
From the “Nothing Up My Sleeve” Department: We all know that the budget compromise developed by the California Senate/Assembly supposedly does not raise taxes. But it is going to hit all of us in the pocketbook. According to the LA Times:

The fundamentals of the economy are strong. Obama is posturing at best; ignorant at worst. He'll talk down the economy in a cynical effort to get votes.
Actually, it's here in the real world where it's nice.
It's the media world where panics are created daily. Whatever happened to that 25-foot surge in Galveston? Certain death, as I recall? Oh, it never topped 11-feet? Plenty of survivors?

I do believe you're right in that there are probably both sides responsible. However, the housing crisis is only a symptom of deeper problems: unfettered greed, wages not keeping up with the cost of living. There's a very good explanation by Robert Reich, former Secretary of Labor.
So how to fix the problem? Choose a leader who doesn't understand the problem (see my previous comment to geah for links), who has been in the Senate, has significant seniority, and is involved with the Commerce Committee, was potentially able to change it for years... and didn't. Or go with a party that has a proven track record for economic growth (again, see my previous comments). I know my choice.
My work life has been just pure and utter hell lately because of AIG, Merrill, and Lehman Brothers... You don't have to only worry about the investment bankers in NYC... You can also worry about the ones in my office. :P
Didn't Al Gore say that he invented the internet? While here it's an advisor and he's explaining that it has to do more with regulation - bc McCain has never claimed to be a techy
Yes, Al made a claim that was interpreted that way (which is why I alluded to it). Actually, Gore was more in charge of the committee that permitted the original Internet to be developed, but he wasn't the inventor. That goes to folks like Vint Cerf, Len Kleinrock, Bob Braden (many of whom I knew at UCLA, which had IMP #1).
As for Arnold: I don't like the budget proposal sent up, so that part is OK. What I don't like is Arnold blindly vetoing other bills sent up during the legislative session: that's a waste of the tax dollars I pay the legislature. So I think they are all wrong (Arnold, the Assembly, and the State Senate).

I'd want to alert everyone before they indulge in too much criticism of McCain's lack of tech savy. He understands tech. He can't use it. He depends on others to use it. The Vietnamese broke his fingers and shattered his arms. He can't raise his arms to type in any way that matters, and he can't manage the finger dexterity required to handle various electronic devices.
We run the risk of poking fun at the handicapped here.
So far so good, but I know no one here wants to veer into the weeds on this subject.

Let's start with your sources. Both owned by Rupert Murdoch, who also owns Fox News. Not necessarily unbiased sources.
Here's an interesting opinion piece from the Washington Post: Since 1950 Republican administrations have be associated with slow growth in real gross domestic product (2.8 percent) as compared to Democratic administrations (4.4 percent). The Bush administration has been the second worst in this period at 1.6 percent, which is only slightly above Ford at 1.5 percent. Bush and the GOP's effect on the economy has resulted in the worst severe poverty since 1975, with the number of severely poor Americans growing by 26 percent between 2000 and 2005, and the worst job creation since the Great Depression; this has left America with the worst child poverty, education, and life expectancy of all civilized countries, and resulted in 38% of Americans struggling to pay for food. In addition to the world's largest bond fund manager declaring that tax cuts for the rich and ( ... )

Also - isn't Arnold doing a good thing by vetoing this budget?
