From the “Say That Again?” Department: Headline seen on CNN: “Bush arrives in Texas; Residents urged to leave”
From the “Nothing Up My Sleeve” Department: We all know that the budget compromise developed by the California Senate/Assembly supposedly does not raise taxes. But it is going to hit all of us in the pocketbook. According to the LA Times:

I looked at your links. I was agreeing with you until the last. You are not facing the cause of the problem. Too bad. You almost had it.
I liked the Robert Reich article too but he makes a critical error. He fails to mention his own complicity. He was part of the Administration that changed the law that precipitated much of this problem. Democrats don't understand the cause of the problem so they will almost certainly choose the wrong solution.
BUT... whomever you choose for President, a President does not have the power to fix this problem. It requires the Congress (by law). You must consider your congressional vote carefully.
The Democrats won't address the problem with their own people who SHOULD have known and were in a position to KNOW and DO something about it. Instead, they are suggesting big spending that will only result in tax increases. Perfect. Why not simply bring back Jimmy Carter and finish the job?
Bottom line: we are all hosed. If we choose McCain (whom I hate) we will be hosed more slowly but we are still hosed for at least a year if we are lucky.

Since Congress will likely remain Democrat and since the present Congress failed to address this problem, they will continue to dither. Charlie Rangel of Ways and Means is under investigation for his shady dealing and Nancy Pelosi refuses to ask him to step aside even temporarily. http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-rangel10-2008sep10,0,1585644.story?track=rss

Regarding various stray remarks made by candidates during a campaign, you can look to Barak Obama on the "Banking Committee" to fix your problem :-) ... http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2008/07/obama-gaffe.html
Candidates say stray things as they address crowds. Their mouths sometimes get ahead of their brains. Even so, Obama hasn't visited all 57 states yet, so he may yet win. :-) ... http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2008/05/barack-obama-wa.html
