Disaster Kitchen: It's official.

Jul 03, 2016 11:04

The smoke alarm in this apartment does nothing.

There were actual flames bout half a foot high and everything this time. I had to beat it out with a damp dish towel. Masses of black smoke everywhere. No real damage though.

What's saddest about this is I was only trying to boil water for tea.

eeek, fudgepuddles!!!, arg, why do i even bother?, i'm a hazard to myself, disaster kitchen

I keep tell you. Ya need an electric kettle. I dunno... you set a fire boiling water? You might be a danger to yourself and others.

Maybe, some time when I'm a little less broke. The stuff under the burner was what caught fire, long before the kettle boiled. I guess the soup I made yesterday boiled over some and I hadn't noticed. :-/

I hear ya on the less broke. Seems like every time I get a little bit ahead, something else rears up and has to be taken care of. Good luck! Sorry about the soup! Gotta be careful with that.

Yeah! I'm used to some smoke whenever I'm cooking, but the flames were quite startling.

I've earned it for it, I'm afraid.

No, just a nice big adrenaline spike and some bemused consternation while flapping at the flaming stove with a wet towel.

It took a long while but the property manager finally replaced the smoke alarm, which apparently was the same one wired into the building when it was built and should have been replaced in 1990. O.o
