I loved this episode to pieces, and I'm loving it all over again with your recap. I'd list the points where I agree, but there are far too many.

On to the next!

ETA: I did mean to say, however, how very pleased I was with Sally Donovan being here, to be a competent, professional detective.

It really was good to see Donovan shown as something other than an adversarial foil for Sherlock, and I really do like the working relationship between her and Greg.

You need to re read the Sign of Four - the Sholto brothers' were characters and responsible for bringing Mary Morstan to Holmes in the first place to consult.

Ah. Yeah, it's on my list to reread sometime after I've finished watching series 3. I'm more familiar with the short stories than the novels, it seems. :-/

NO WAY!!! LESTRADE'S A DCI NOW! Detective Chief Inspector!

I know I know!!! Exciting! Well done, Lestrade!

I think as Sherlock's review board drew to a close she did realize she'd been wrong about Sherlock, but stood by calling the evidence as she saw it, and that Sherlock would respect that.

I agree with this assessment of Donovan. I mean, she examined the evidence that was there and came to a pretty clever conclusion that everybody else seemed blinded to. At least she had the guts to stand up and say what she thought, and I’m glad she hasn’t been, like, karmically punished for it by the show. In fact, it looks like she and Lestrade got promotions out of it?

Maybe a spin-off? Lestrade, DCI. Heh. Not likely.

Hee, I think in one of the DVD commentaries, Mofftiss said that they loved the idea that when Sherlock is not around, Lestrade could have his own show because he’s just as much of a badass, just not quite as clever/dramatic as Sherlock. But he’s persistent and puts in the work to get the bad guys. Also paternal!Lestrade ( ... )

(I'm still watching 3.03, but I'm catching up on comments while I have a moment)

Absolutely! Lestrade overall seems to have a deeper sort of caring to his policing and leadership in general which is very sweet and engaging. Also his sense of humor is grand.

Because I thought he would dance, you thought he would dance, he wanted to dance...and he doesn’t get to dance (except with Janine). *cries*

And the dance he got with Janine was just in a back room, teaching her how to waltz. Aww.
