Completely non-spoilery observations from this episode and the last one. This is the first time a Reaper has appeared human from the get go. In Faith, Abandon All Hope, Death Takes a Holiday the Reapers have always been portrayed as human shaped non humans. Even Tess was first seen as a white floating thing. She only appeared human in order to get Dean to listen to her. Since Bobby recognized the Reaper immediately, I don't see a reason why he should have come looking human. I'm very suspicious that the "Reaper" is and actual Reaper.
You noted that Dick shot his own gun. The gun may be special, but the other factor is that Dick probably loaded the gun himself getting Leviathan DNA on the bullets. Since the Leviathan work through DNA manipulation, it is possible that Dick's DNA was working to convince Bobby to give up, not a Reaper.
I don't want Bobby to die and I'm willing to accept a logical explanation as to why he doesn't, but I have no idea where we go from here. I just wanted to note that there is some wiggle room here
Wiggle room is good, and the more potential avenues of non-death for Bobby the better. Welcome to the Denial camp, there may be a marshmallow roast later. :-)
Okay, so I -just- watched this episode (I refrained until 7.11 came up, so I could jump the month of unknowing), and I always pull up your picspam reaction to use while I'm watching it (because it's amusing to see what you notice that I totally don't, and your tie report, and you're just eerily dead-on usually. Like, I think the writers are reading your pages!!), and I just had a quick question for you. Because, you know, you are awesome at predicting things.
Is Bobby an honorary Winchester, or are the boys honorary Singers? Because we all know that the Winchesters are like bouncy-balls when it comes to death. Mary excluded, they've all come back from the dead. *clings to that precious, precious hope* Right? Right??

I think it's kind of a mutual thing, but heavier on the Winchester side if only for the fact they have him outnumbered (and are the main characters). But besides Mary (who has briefly come back a few times in different ways, not including past!Mary), there's John (who briefly came back before moving on to somewhere glowy), and Adam, (who briefly came back from Heaven before getting stuck in the pit with Lucifer), so we most likely will get a 'briefly come back' for Bobby before he moves on, hopefully to something awesome.
He has already died and come back fully once (end of Season Five), so he's certainly gotten in on the Winchester revolving door on the afterlife. It would take one hell of a cosmic interference to bring him back from absolute brain death though. Not that that means it's ruled out, just that it's nor terribly likely. :-/
Faint hope is there though. I'm not going to crush anyone's faint hope, especially when I could easily be wrong.

Like you, I'm also hoping for an eleventh hour miracle from a certain angel who's missing his trenchcoat.
