OK, so all you that know me also know that I'm a bit on the weird side of things.. that's fine, I know it too..

That being said, how many of you are looking at the current situation and working out just how self-sufficient you could be if push came to shove?.. I know I am doing so..

I'm not, but I'm in the happy place of knowing damn' well that I can. I've done it before.

I'm gradually getting there, and feeling happier about it as it happens..

You'll be lucky, first thing we'll do is blow the bridge up...

I can, provided I move back to Sweden. Which, if push was beginning to approach shove, I'd do.

Oh this has been essentially my 10 year plan. Observe peak oil and all that goes with it. Observe mass overcrowding in the SE and the lack of quality of life. Continue with rat race until there is enough money to buy decent place somewhere out to the west (with water on site). Do up place with solar panels, recycled waste system, etc. Add chickens and vegetable patch. Aim to get at least 60% of food & power off what has essentially become a small holding. I reckon I have <5 years before that is now achievable.

Now, where did I leave my tin hat?

Sort of, vaguely.

Though if things got really bad I'm not sure if I'm fleeing to sweden or somewhere close to your brewing. 8-)

Remind me to subject you to the output of my favourite brewery at some point.

There was a little something at the back of my mind when we got this place just before the 1999/2000 changeover that said "just in case, at least this place has things like heating and cooking that can be done with wood burners"...
