I am bummed

Steve went to the doctor for his routine physical on Friday.  He may have prostate cancer.  May not, but it will take a few weeks to find out via a biopsy.  We were in about the same place this time last year waiting for news on whether he would need heart surgery again or not.  Fortunately that was a not, but it kept us from going to Jess's ( Read more... )

Hang in there. David had a scare a few years back but it turned out to be nothing much. Hope that is the same for you two. You are in my prayers.

Thanks Betty. I realize it could be nothing, it's just a crappy end to a fairly crappy year that's getting to me. Time for wine and chocolate and trashy romance novels... :-)

First things first - *hugs*

Second, while I certainly hope that he doesn't have prostate cancer, it really depends upon the stage. My father was diagnosed 5 1/2 years ago with early stage cancer. He underwent treatment, and has been in remission for most of that time. If it is cancer, research various treatment options, and if you want, I can tell you about the pros and cons of my father's treatment (because some of the side effects of his meds were serious).

Third, your shoulder could be something which is treatable and doesn't necessarily mean that you must stop knitting. See your doctor - he or she may send you to an orthopedist, depending upon the problem. Heck, even after 18 years of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, I can STILL hand sew, embroider, paint, do calligraphy and illumination, type, make lace, etc. I just had to adjust how I do things :-)

And did I mention - *hugs*? :-)

My dad has had prostate cancer twice. I know it's one of those slow growing things that's unlikely to kill Steve. It's more the side effects. I know at least two men who are now impotent as well as incontinent to some degree or other. And having to come off the blood thinners for the operation is a big deal at this point (if an operation is called for). His PSA numbers are okay but the prostate itself, supposed to be spongy, is hard instead. We won't really know anything until he sees a urologist after the first of the year and has a biopsy done. I try not to buy trouble ahead of time but I'm just a bit down right now so it's making me wackier than it normally would ( ... )
