TODAY SPRING ARRIVED . . .

Today, April 18th, was the first warm day of spring. After the usual grey cool start to the day, the sky turned blue and temperature reached 22C (in my greenhouse it reached 47C - I had forgotten to open the door during the morning).

I used to do into survey work in spare time when employed as museum curator. Now I'm retired I've arranged a wonderful scheme with Forestry Commission. Basically I am allowed to roam anywhere in the forest with car. Collect/trap beetles and if I find anything significant, to let FC know. FC told me to apply for "volunteer wildlife grant" - this covers my expenses ( ... )

Oh, the red machine is ideal for forest and especially for woodlands. Because you can see your red car from afar.

In our politically correct safety obsessed country, before permission to drive in forest was given I had to produce a "lone working policy" and describe actions I would undertake to ensure safety (my own and general public ( ... )
