It is a Tuesday morning, bright and shiny and sunny and crisp and cool -- the sort of day that San Francisco was invented to provide. I'm wearing a tank top guaranteed to cause vertigo in anyone who chances to look at it directly while I'm in motion, my hair is fluffy and clean, and life is good. (The part where I finished reading Robin McKinley' ( Read more... )

Speaking of urban fantasy, what's your take on the Dresden Files?

Not the person asked but I'll answer anyway: I really really enjoyed them. I'm waiting for my roommate to remember to pick up the new hardcover for me on her bookseller discount like she keeps saying she's going to do.

It's good. The scope gets ramped up a bit, and we learn more about the world in which the story takes place.

Excellent. I was sitting in a B&N and reading the first few chapters and it really wanted to come home with me. But then I remembered a 30% = Good! so I'm waiting. Impatiently.

What am I going to read while I'm writing Lycanthropy and Other Personal Issues? Cereal boxes?

Political biographies. :) Nature books? Bill Bryson's A Walk in the Woods is pretty good.

I'll probably go through a spate of straight fantasy, actually. They're rare, but they do happen.

People reading Sunshine makes me happy. What'd you think of it?

I really liked it. I was a little thrown at first, when things started sliding from normal into...not so normal...but given the story itself, that structure was perfect. I'll go back and read it again in a few months, just to catch the things I know I missed this time.

...my hair is fluffy and clean...

Is it odd that part of your post made me smile the most? I love clean, fluffy hair. I love it when I see others getting enjoyment out of it too. (My friends, alas, do not understand my obsession with showers and need for clean hair.)

I was going to ask what you thought of Sunsine but you've already covered that. I was just looking at my stack of books to re-read last night and had it marked as my pick for this weekend.

Clean, fluffy hair is the best. I love having clean, fluffy hair. I don't actually like showering, largely because I hate getting wet -- being dry rocks, being wet rocks, but getting wet annoys me.

I have a large collection of shower gels to help lure me into the bath.
