Congratulations, Lady Mondegreen!! Hope I'll get to hear you some time soon! Had to smile when I read your trials and tribulations of working out three-part harmonies, especially trying to transfer keys of someone else's song into a workable mix (for UT cover tunes, the songwriters who have challenged us most that way are Rand and Adam). Been there, done that many times.

Yay for filk trios :).

I've had a lot of experience with vocal arrangement from summer stock and musical theatre, but this was still a new challenge -- the fact that Batya and Merav can rehearse together regularly while I can't doesn't really help, since it means that we're learning things blind and then trying to reunite them. Still, it's totally worth it for that moment when the harmony snaps together and broadens, and suddenly...whoa.

You made music.

I *like* reading about how you pulled things together! You see, mostly when I get to harmonize it's pure improvisation. For Katy's & Yooh's next CD, when they invited me to add some vocal lines to a few songs, the hardest part was trying to remember. "You had that lovely harmony you did on X" "Ummm... do you remember roughly what sort of thing I did? I know I sang *some*thing..."
Or coming up with something new on the spot...
And I so *love* harmonizing, I'd love to do it way more often and learn about how to do it more structured.

Most of all though - I'd love to have *heard & seen that*!!! *hugs*

When I saw the three of you take the stage, I said 'Oh, this should be good.'

I was wrong. It wasn't good.

It wasn't great.

It was un-fucking-believable. I was breathless when you finished.

Definately one of the THE top performances. I'm glad I had already done my set -- I would have hated to have to follow that.

Love,
-R

It was like standing in the foyer of the Mongolian Barbecue place, only in a BIG room. Wow wow wow.

Yes, I know nobody who hasn't been to OVFF or Columbus just got that reference ...

Hey, I got it on MD. Moderately crappy, compared to the cut the actual sound guys perhaps got, but.

I have an awful lot of MDs of filk, actually.

Yes, brothers and sisters, I did indeed live through weeks of rehearsal. At one point Saturday before the one-shot, I was ready to go to Ohio and kill Eddie. Never mind that they don't live in Ohio anymore, or that I WAS in Ohio.

Nonetheless, it was worth my small suffering and the three fine singers of Mondegreen (ok, four, but Allyssa sat this one out, for now) kicked some serious butt, in a filk sense of course. And I'm not just saying that because I'm married to Batya. They were wonderful. And I think I am quite looking forward to many, many nights of unending practice driving me from the living room.

We may just be at the start of something big.
