That she eclipsed the vagrancies of day;
She would not close her eyes, allowing night
To steal her blazing countenance away.

No man could question; why, the shining sea,
To steal her blazing countenance away,
Sent pearls and pirates, ripe with villainy.
No man could question why the shining sea
Did what she did--and I, the timid moon,
Sent pearls and pirates, ripe with villainy,
While wishing she would come to steal me soon,
Did what? She did! And I, the timid moon...
My sister was the sun; she shone so bright,
(While wishing she would come to steal me soon),
She would not close her eyes, allowing night.
