John Scalzi rocked that tiara in 2006 when it was launched. Jay Lake and Elizabeth Bear decided the plaque was too boring. They were torn between designing ceremonial fur-lined underwear and a ceremonial tiara. They went with the tiara because, as Bear said, "Life does not offer enough opportunities to dress like a demented elf prince."
