Why we have remakes.

Yesterday, I went to see the new Friday the 13th -- only partially because Jared 'I play Sam Winchester, and am taller than two normal mortals stacked together' Padalecki was playing the male lead. Mostly, I wanted to see Jason Vorhees hack people up with a machete. That's why you go to one of these movies, right? To see people get hacked up ( Read more... )

Re: Where are you on the Zombie aspect? dornbeast February 17 2009, 20:23:24 UTC
My opinion:

Zombies don't need to run because they outnumber their prey. They don't have to run - they already have their prey surrounded, and they don't get tired.

Jason doesn't have that advantage. (The question of whether the resurrected Jason is a being that enjoys the fear of its prey as much as the kill is left up to the viewer, as well as the question of whether he gets tired or not.)

There is one remake (hopefully) coming up which may be better than the average remake, although probably not until 2011 - it's not actually greenlit yet. But, if there is any justice in Hollyweird, it will be.

I'm usually not one for horror, but Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (a book to be released in May) and the interest in making it a movie have me intrigued. If it's what I hope (Lizzie Bennet fights zombies in some historically-accurate fashion), I'll have to be at the front of the line for both.

Could you recommend a sort of stepping-stone movie (something good but not too scary) for someone new to the zombie genre?

Oh lord. Yes, that's definitely wackier. Let's hope he takes out Miss Bingley first.

The part of this movie that gave me double-takes was the mannequin named Gina. Combine obsessive listening to Dear Gina with the line (in so many words!) "It's been a long time, Gina," and the fangirl in the back of the theater FREAKS OUT.
