I have tried NyQuil maybe three times in my life: each time it has made me feel much worse after taking it than before (possibly because I never have the full range of symptoms it's meant to treat). I deal with colds by taking some combination of Benadryl, Robitussin, and Tylenol, plus echinacea, zinc, vitamin C, chicken soup, and lots and lots of water.
This is not meant as a general criticism of NyQuil, just a datapoint.
The reason it's so essential for me is not so much that I feel better after taking it - actually I wouldn't know how I feel, because the thing is that it puts me to sleep when otherwise I wuold be kept awake by coughing and sniffling and snorfling. (As long as I've allowed eight hours before I have to get up, hangovers don't seem to be a problem for me.
During the day I take the same sort of stuff you do.
But I would certainly say that three tries is plenty to prove it's not right for you!
