Last night, I had a cough, a stuffy head, and an insomnia (what?). So I added NyQuil to the mix, and slept the blessed sleep of the just and the stoned ( Read more... )

They do not sell NyQuil in Europe or Asia, at least not anywhere I've been. I don't know how anyone deals with a cold without that stuff.

I have tried NyQuil maybe three times in my life: each time it has made me feel much worse after taking it than before (possibly because I never have the full range of symptoms it's meant to treat). I deal with colds by taking some combination of Benadryl, Robitussin, and Tylenol, plus echinacea, zinc, vitamin C, chicken soup, and lots and lots of water.

This is not meant as a general criticism of NyQuil, just a datapoint.

The reason it's so essential for me is not so much that I feel better after taking it - actually I wouldn't know how I feel, because the thing is that it puts me to sleep when otherwise I wuold be kept awake by coughing and sniffling and snorfling. (As long as I've allowed eight hours before I have to get up, hangovers don't seem to be a problem for me.

During the day I take the same sort of stuff you do.

But I would certainly say that three tries is plenty to prove it's not right for you!

Hope you get well soon - based on your description above, I can't tell if this morning's conditions constitute improvement or not.

In my e-mail this morning, I received a link to a video about extreme drug-resistant TB, and I immediately thought of you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yj8KZNI6-W8
