So I keep the most current draft of whatever I'm currently working on stored on a thumb drive, along with the applicable continuity guides. Last week, the most current draft file of Lycanthropy and Other Personal Issues decided to become unreadable to anyone not on my laptop -- something I was able to get around by opening the file, copying its ( Read more... )

Better. www.fastmail.fm. Aussie, not so anxious to give up your deep dark secrets to No Such Agency, graphics-free, ad-free if you throw them a few bucks, tons of storage if you go a bit more, and you can actually publish stuff from there, too. I'd offer to host'em myself (I've got 10gb of storage in something an awful lot like a Real Data Center) but I don't have all the fancy interface stuff folks who aren't intimate with Linux on the command line will want...

Hmmmm. mdlbear might have such things... although there is an argument for a bit more geographic separation than Concord to San Jose... if the San Andreas decides to get all nasty the results could be.... suboptimal.

But definitely with the online-accessible remote backup, some way or other.

And good luck with recovering that; I'd like Seanan to have all her hair next I see her!

Just so's you know, the little thumb drives also can only be written to just so many times before the media goes kerflooey. It shouldn't be your sole site for anything, although it's an acceptable backup site for many things.
