When I was a kid, I used to read a lot of science fiction magazines. I still do, but they don't have the same stories, because when I was a kid, they published these fabulous tales about a woman named Anne 'Jason' Masmajean, and her adventures on the mixed-up planet of Mirabile. I remember when the stories were collected in an anthology (called, ( Read more... )

I really wish I'd had the chance to meet her. Kate and I were just talking a few months ago about how much we wished she'd write more books. (Kate had never read Hellspark until I loaned it to her.)

Damn, damn, damn.

I always wished she'd write more books, too. I adore _Hellspark_ and never understood why it wasn't better known.

Also her Star Trek novel "Uhura's Song", which was my first encounter of with her books. It has some of the best characterisations of the "Original Series" characters in the genre, and introduces some wonderful people of her own. I met her briefly at the Baltimore Worldcon (Buccaneer), and one of my copies of Hellspark was signed by her there.

She also wrote one of my absolute favoritest Star Trek novels: Uhura's Song, and I'd always hoped that she'd write another fun "Tail-kinker to-Ennien" story.

Ack! I just got a new copy of Mirabile this year, to replace my paperback what fell apart from love. I am going to miss knowing she was out there in the world, telling stories. And her Tailkinker to-Ennin is my fave Star Trek Mary Sue Done Right.

I think you gave us our copy of Mirable, which I love. I'll have to look for Hellspark, but yeah, it's a damn shame. :(
