Good ye gods, LJ; also, a memo.

Jan 29, 2008 09:23

As is often the case after a convention I actually enjoyed, a) I'm pretty darn behind on LJ, and b) several new people have wandered over to say hello. Hello! Also, good ye gods, LJ, that's a lot of posts. A few notes:

1) After skipping back 500 posts, I've managed to at least skim everything. I'm totally exhausted, and was dealing with a lot ( Read more... )

Note the phrase 'reading list'
Amen to that. Wish everyone were capable of that distinction.

Well, it's not *quite* as simple as just "reading list".

I think the only time I've felt hurt that someone took me off their "reading list" was when it also effectively excluded me from being able to keep up with *their* lives, because many of their posts were friends-locked. (IOW, for them it wasn't just a "reading list", it was more a "who may read me" list, and I, having thought I was a Real Friend (tm) up to that point, was suddenly excluded.)

But I also have a few people I read, but don't have on my "friends list", because I don't care to share with them -- or think they wouldn't be comfortable with reading -- all my friends-locked posts (and I don't feel like messing with filters much these days). Mostly this applies to my kids and their friends and partners.

I absolutely agree with you on that. I do very little under a lock, largely because once it's on the Internet, it's out of my control regardless, so why post things I'm that concerned with hiding? That said, if someone with whom I have an established, off-LJ relationship removes me from their lock, I'll be hurt.

...sadly, it'll take a little while, because I intentionally don't monitor the reads you/doesn't read you numbers. That was making me neurotic for a while, so I stopped.

It might salve a lot of feelings.

*grin* I had something like a 900-post catchup session once I was done on the show. I shudder to think what it would have been if I'd been on longer...

GLEH.

I would have gone under the bed. And stayed there.

Hey, I was kinda bummed when it happened--900 posts of mostly frivolous stuff helped.

*grin*

In 2006 when the WorldCon & DragonCon were on consecutive weekends, I wound up doing the "skip 900" thing. I got 3 weeks behind, & lost a whole week, because LJ wouldn't let the f-list go back any further than 2 weeks. It took me literally months to get caught up, so my [virtual] hat's off to you, sir.

500 skips? Good god. I usually give up and declare my pants bankrupt by the time I reach 200.

If I did that my pants would bankrupt every 6 hours. I'm pretty sure cadhla's flist is about the size of mine. Most weekends I do go to skip=980 and read forward at least once though.

The debt-recovery ability of your pants is hailed as truly amazing.

Welcome back.

I will point you at it anyways, since technically it is entirely Margery's fault that I thought about it.
