I've got a lot of sympathy for you on the job front! I really hope you get to keep doing what you enjoy :) but it sounds like you're doing the wise thing by considering backup plans
I really, really hope so, too! I know that my Manager is very happy with my performance, which stands me in good stead. It's all just now a matter of whether the team will have enough resources to extend my contract. So, it all comes down to cold, hard cash in the end.
It would be great if things worked out my way, certainly! But, as life has often taught me, not everything will work out exactly as I'd planned. But...it will be OK. And, I can always go back to study, if nothing else.
I can totally understand why the thought of looking for a new job sends you into an anxiety spiral. Because it IS stressful to look for a job, and it sucks when you like the job you have and don't want to have to consider making a move.
But, at least you're doing it from a place of strength in that you are currently employed. And if it works out the way you want it to, you won't have to leave anyway, but it's still good to cover your butt and look into other options.
Yup, it's definitely very unsettling and anxiety provoking! Added to that is the fact that Matt only works part-time and doesn't earn a heck of a lot. So, if I was to become unemployed, he wouldn't be able to support me. Not that I expect him to support me...but we're certainly not going to be rolling in doleros, that's for sure.
At the same time, I am quite excited that there's potential for me to go back to school. I was thinking that if I did get my contract extended, I may even just work for another six months, and then try for journalism school for next year. I really do want to train as a journalist, so if I didn't get my contract renewed, it would be good opportunity to go and do it already! The only thing that's holding me back is the financial aspect- and I'd have to have a serious talk with my parents to see if they can lend a hand.
*sigh* It's still scary. But, I have to keep telling myself that things will work out for the best. If I allow it.
Would it be possible to do the journalism or radio programs on a part time basis while still working or working part-time? I'm sure you would be amazing in either of the programs, but in terms of career and finances, both of those areas are not known for being the easiest to make a stable living from. I mean, of course, if there's a way to follow your passion you totally should, but it's good to keep in mind all of the potential issues that could arise from these endeavors. So if you have a little cushion of working and making money while you are studying that can only help in the long term.
