Where our heroine meets one very nice bloke, and one complete sodbucket...

Jan 31, 2010 23:28

So, I've had two encounters with men of the older generation today...both at complete opposite ends of the spectrum. Of course, it's probably going to the more negative one that I remember, the human mind being what it is. But...hey.

The first one happened when I was walking (with miriamus) to a restaurant at the "business" end of town for a friend's 40th ( Read more... )

bloody men, friends, weight, stupid bloody freaking image issues, wedding bells, matt, ezza hates people, wtf?!

What a wanker! *hugs* Jeez, some people are such cocks. I'm so sorry, that was such an unnecessarily hurtful thing for him to do. PLease try not to let it get you down too much. HOWEVER, I am delighted that you were (and very rightfully so!) complimented by the nice guy.

Thank you, darling. *SQUISH* I'm feeling much better about the whole thing today. Matt and I had a pretty gigantic argument last night (given that I ended up taking my rotten mood out on him :()...but now we've made up, so that's really all I care about for the moment. I'm still a little hurt about my mate's wedding...but, I'll get over it.

FABULOUS ICON! ;p

*hugs back* I love my Outraged Feminist friends!

It's funny, because things in general are actually going quite well, and aside from all the nasty that happened, I had a pretty amazing day yesterday. But, that little incident kinda went and ruined everything. :( Which sucks, but hey.

Ooooh, SSar may have told you that we had our first bellydance class yesterday! It was FABULOUS! :D I can't wait for the next one...and I'm so getting me a coin belt next pay day! And, I have the biggest girl crush on our teacher. ;P

She is pretty cool! Goodness, I will be earlier next week, but I too had fun and will be practising this week!

There is a military saying which goes something like, "Get over rough ground lightly" - if you get a bad patch like this just focus on getting through and don't make it any harder for yourself than you have to while things are rotten.

No, his wife probably doesn't know he's out. She probably left him for a man who isn't garbage.

It comes down to not allowing jerks make you feel less than who you are. Seriously, is that man worthy of paying attention to? What a rude, juvenile, sad excuse for a man. So very pathetic that, at his age, taunting someone is the highlight of his life. Feel sorry for him, be secure in yourself, and move on.

Yep. I need to remind myself that him yelling abuse at me says *much more* about him than about me, and that it's a waste of my precious time to get so worked up about it. Sometimes, however, it can be very difficult not to take such things to heart, particularly considering my history of weight issues and poor body image. As I said in my OP, I'm very glad I had Matt to come home to after that (even though we argued a bit), as it would have been a lot harder to bear, had I been single and believing that it was the way I looked that was preventing me from meeting someone. Which is what I believed very strongly. :(

Dude. I had one man attempt to sweep me off my feet in the street, and another ridicule and humiliate me in the street, both in the space of a couple of hours! I'm not used to such spectacles! ;P I am, as I also said up top, very grateful for the Hispanic gentleman's compliments. :) Not everyone is a complete scumbag, by the looks of things.

I don't know why, but it never ceases to shock me how awful and nasty people can be.

I'm so sorry you had to deal with that disgusting situation, Erin. But you handled yourself well. Of course, afterward, we always think of the snappy comebacks, but while you're in the moment when something like that is happening to you, it just shocks the words out of your mouth.

It's a really lucky and good thing that the other older man gave you such a nice compliment. Ah, Hispanic men, they love curvy women. They really need to teach a lot of non-Hispanic men a lesson or two about the beauty of women.

You are a beautiful person inside and out, Erin. I hope you feel better soon and get through this rough patch quickly.

Thank you, dearest. :) Yes, it was a pretty disgusting situation, but it's not really bothering me all that much, anymore- which is surprising, when you consider that something like this would have completely destroyed my self-confidence in the past. Guess all that therapy really is working! It was, however, a pretty nasty reminder that the world doesn't have a lot of love for overweight people these days. :( Ah, well...

When I was in NYC, I swear I was hit on more than I've ever been in my life- and mainly by Hispanic, African and Eastern European blokes. One Hispanic dude I bought a handbag from (in a little stall in SoHo) even said I looked like the woman from the Mama Mia Broadway poster! Dude, I swear I'm in the wrong country. ;P However, my Matt definitely renews my faith in kiwi blokes every day. :D ( ... )
