Seems like the HCL sequel is not going to happen after all. At least not with Daniel MacIvor's script. Or, well, with his script maybe, but it's not quite what we thought it would be.

( A final gathering at the back of the tour bus with Bruce, Callum, Hugh, Bernie. We listen to the tape of HCL songs, all the way through, one last time. And we belt the words out. Bernie sings loudest, performing for Salerno's camera. Hugh and Callum sit back, looks of sadness. I get the sense that if they could do it, they'd chuck their lives and be Joe Dick and Billy Tallent forever. Callum leans to Bruce and says exactly what everyone else is thinking: 'I don't want it to end.' )

( A final scene with Callum. Bruce has him lean back in the goat van and simply answer more questions in character. When this is done Bruce summons Hugh and Bernie to the van for what they think is yet another scene. )

You. Are. My. Hero. Again. (I wasn't really sure after The Tracey Fragments. I really wasn't. But now? Right now? Hell yeah.) Also, Stephen McHattie. You too. You too a LOT. And Lisa Houle, even though I've never seen you before*, and Georgina Reilly (Bruce sure has a type, doesn't he).

( Right now, outside, the snow is blasting out of the sky, you can barely see a thing, same as last January. Hugh stretches out on the long bench in front of the bus. Bernie sits next to him and rubs his chest. Signs of tenderness among our leads as things wind down. )

My friend E just sent me three Canadian short films from the extras of the Highway 61 and Roadkill DVDs. Kind of as a thank you for pimping him into Canadian movies. \c/

( East of Abbotsford we find a nice spot to shoot the scene where Joe stops the goat van and dresses the guys down out on the road. The sun is just going down and the moment is right for a dawn scene )

( I talk with Susan Lambie, our script supervisor, about dialogue changes throughout the course of production. She's had to scramble to track them all. Her script copy is covered with neatly printed ad-libbed obscenities. )

( I discuss this for several minutes with Callum, who is dead-set against playing the scene as written, with Billy callously telling the world he's leaving HCL for good after tonight's show because he's got a better offer somewhere else. )

( This is where Bruce has decided to film the former 'Joe's kitchen' scene, where Joe talks Billy into going on tour with the band. Problem is, it really doesn't make documentary sense for the camera to be here during a private moment between two old friends. )
