Re the First Weekend Club and more specifically the DVD Club linked above:

I e-mailed Katherine Brodsky (who describes herself as the DVD Club moderator aka your "host") and was reassured that non-Canadians are entirely welcome to join and to participate in all of the online activities. Don't worry about the registration box that asks you to pick the nearest (Canadian) city; this is mostly for First Weekend activities (i.e., attending in person on opening weekend). Just pick your favorite Canadian city to complete your registration and then come participate.

Again, go here to learn more and to join the club.

Also: The First Weekend Club's latest e-mail newsletter came out today (4/23) and says:

The DVD Club presents: Snow Cake

Have you seen SNOW CAKE? Want to talk about it? There’s still time!

First Weekend Club’s new DVD Club is open for discussion - submit your mini-reviews, post questions & responses, discuss the film with other members across Canada and don’t forget to submit your own questions for stars Callum Keith ( ... )

Thanks, mal. It didn't occur to me to ask - I just joined and chose the closest Canadian city due north of where I am, which turned out to be Calgary...*g*

First, thanks for the newsletter! I've run them in a couple of fandoms, briefly, but discovered I hated it; I hope you're enjoying it. (Of course, these fandoms have fewer clueless newbies who talk in l33t-speak, which may make a difference).

Also, personally I like that it's not under a cut.

There are a few coding suggestions I have, for things that would make it easier to read and more visually appealing *to me*. I don't pretend to have insight into others' viewing preferences.
  • For some reason, some of the links (Tracey Fragments, Northwest Film Forum, Leo Awards) aren't working properly; viewing the page source, I'm guessing this is because the http:// is absent.
  • It looks weird to me to see the bullet points not indented below the headings (I'm used to seeing it as [ul][li] on first use rather than just [li]). I'd find it easier to read with the indents, because then the headings (Fanart/Icons/Etc.) and subheadings (Battlestar Galactica) would be more visible.
  • I love the separation provided by [hr], but would balance the space ( ... )

Thanks for the great input, ainsley! I've fixed the immediate problem, which were the broken links. And I'll work on some of the other stuff after I've gotten some sleep. Again, thanks for taking the time to voice your opinions.

I'd forgotten about
    - most of this I've done off the top of my head 'cause my html book is at work. I'm bringing it home and doing some reviewing...

Thanks for all the help, ainsley. The
alone makes a big difference in presentation...

No problem! And I've learned more html, too. \o/

(I'd have applied the [ul] to all sections, but you know me...picky picky.)

This probably isn't the place to ask, but is the First Weekend Club Canada-only? I can't find a definite answer on the website.

Oh, thanks! For some reason I didn't pick up comments to the post the first time. Maybe part of the screening project? *shrugs*

Oh, they were screened and I was about to go to bed, so I hadn't unscreened them. You didn't miss them, they just weren't there. I'm tricky like that...*g*.

The Tracey Fragments is also running as part of Filmfest DC - info here.

If anybody in DC is interested, I'm going to the showing tomorrow night. :D

You might want to add an original Leoben/Kara-themed vid , Boats and birds.

Great job you're doing!
