I'm too tired to comment on this right now the way it deserves but it's just beautiful. Well done you. I adore Duck and Dan, and I want them to be happy ALWAYS - and you have captured perfectly so many of the things in both of them that bring that well into the realm of possibility. And you've done so within the rhythm of both men and of Wilby itself, where slow cadences hide intensity and a word is worth a thousand other words.

I really really (REALLY) liked this look inside Dan's head, and the language you used to get us there. Also, Dan's view of Duck is a thing that makes me smiiiiiile :D

I've been meaning to comment since yesterday morning, but I don't know what to say. I love your take on what happened at the Watch, I love how it's hopeful, I love Stuart and I love that Duck just sees the situation in an instant and is so understanding. Great fic!

Hee, I had the idea that they were going to be a Comforting Example for the Young, which was all very Noble and Generic and Dull, and then Stuart jumped out at me on rewatch and made it specific and much more writable, for which I thank him.

'Preciate your liking!

That actually sums it up, but I'm going to throw in some extra words. This is so sweet and fragile and hopeful all at once -- much like the movie. I loved your Dan, his feeling of always being an outsider and his concomitant hyper-awareness of rules. I loved that he sees Duck as a rule-breaker -- and that he sees him as strong in a number of ways, not all of them obvious.
