Recs, please.

I want to watch some anime. Please give me some recs.

Some of my favorites are RahXephon, Serial Experiments Lain, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Fullmetal Alchemist. From those choices, clearly I'm not interested in high school drama-types. (For anyone who thinks Lain is a school-drama, you didn't watch past the first couple of episodes ( Read more... )

Read or Die the TV - Very offbeat employing lots of books, all female protagonists and the power to control paper as a Familiar. This isn't within my vein of watching in general but it's very good with its story and character interactions.

Another is Great Teacher Onizuka (often written as GTO). Too long to explain but I recommend it 110%. It's not a high school drama, per se, but it involves high school, drama, and a former biker gang member who wishes to become the best teacher ever (and has never been with a girl, which plays prominently).

I have heard about Great Teacher Onizuka for years but it never appealed. You'd still recommend it, despite my general genre? I'll certainly watch it if you say yes, I've watched some Korean and Taiwanese dramas I never thought I would and enjoyed them. I could enjoy this.

It just seems so... not me. Even Full Metal Panic was a little school-y.

Ghost in the Machine: Stand Alone Complex / Second Gig are also very good cyberpunk series.

I saw the Ghost in the Machine movie years before I got into anime. I didn't like it the first time but did when I re-watched.

Is the series the same as the movie? Or more detail so it doesn't matter? (Not that I remember the movie at all...)

My favourites are the vampire ones, especially "Vampire Knight". YUM YUM YUM. Blood + is good too (and there is a live version of it to be out this year!).

I also like sci-fi "Trigun".

Oh, and "Claymore". Awesome.

But mainly - watch "Vampire Knight" (if you haven't yet)

lol, I saw you talk about Vampire Knight. I'll watch a couple and see how I do.

I didn't like Trigun! I think I'm the only one who didn't. I did love Wolfwood though, he and Millie were the most awesome ever. I seriously almost bought a chibi Wolfwood keychain, I loved his character so much.

I've seen meganbmoore talk about the Claymore manga. I should do more research on that series, it's come up enough I'm intrigued.

Thanks!

Was pointed here by swankyfunk:

Last Exile (steampunk and planes)
Darker Than Black (SF/fantasy action)
Witch Hunter Robin (fantasy/horror)
Pumpkin Scissors
Full Metal Panic (mech - not really a high school drama, promise)
Appleseed (mech - a couple movies)

Hope these work for you!

I've seen Last Exile, Full Metal Panic, and Witch Hunter Robin. FMP was pretty cool and I loved the opening theme. I used to dance around to it a lot. Same with the WHR opening. I wasn't the biggest fan of Last Exile, which most people found surprising.

I will check out the other three, though.

Thanks!

I tried that, and I think it was too early in my asian-exposure. I couldn't get past the second episode. :/

Haibane Renmei!!!

just watch the beginning. it is a big mystery thingie. No high school drama at all. Also, no tentacle porn and very few panties. Possibly the least sexy anime ever, but not in a bad way. ;) I am not a huge anime fan, but I LOVE HAIBANE RENMEI.

Well, there goes my recommendation :) It's the only series I've watched, and I liked it a lot so I don't know why I've never bothered to seek out any more anime in general.
