Recs, please.

I want to watch some anime. Please give me some recs.

Some of my favorites are RahXephon, Serial Experiments Lain, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Fullmetal Alchemist. From those choices, clearly I'm not interested in high school drama-types. Read or Die the TV - Very offbeat employing lots of books, all female protagonists and the power to control paper as a Familiar. This isn't within my vein of watching in general but it's very good with its story and character interactions.

Another is Great Teacher Onizuka (often written as GTO). Too long to explain but I recommend it 110%. It's not a high school drama, per se, but it involves high school, drama, and a former biker gang member who wishes to become the best teacher ever (and has never been with a girl, which plays prominently).

I have heard about Great Teacher Onizuka for years but it never appealed. You'd still recommend it, despite my general genre? I'll certainly watch it if you say yes, I've watched some Korean and Taiwanese dramas I never thought I would and enjoyed them. I could enjoy this.

It just seems so... not me. Even Full Metal Panic was a little school-y.

Ghost in the Machine: Stand Alone Complex / Second Gig are also very good cyberpunk series.

I saw the Ghost in the Machine movie years before I got into anime. I didn't like it the first time but did when I re-watched.

Is the series the same as the movie? Or more detail so it doesn't matter? (Not that I remember the movie at all...)

Wasn't a fan of the movie, but the series is much better. Less focus on the "Matrix" aspect and more on CSI-based stories.
