Lj glitchy tonight - or is it me?

I hate to say this, but my lj is glitching alot tonight. I hope that's all it is, just glitches (or else my internet rather than my lj), but like alot of people I'm worried about the effect that sanctions etc. is going to have on our access to lj, and only hope we're small enough fry to fly under the radar... you know, and other mixed metaphors ( Read more... )

I am so glad you were able to backup your journals. I have not had any success yet. Ugh. My last backup was quite a few years ago but at least I have some stuff backed up over there. I wish I had been backing up all along. It's really frustrating.

The dw back-up doesn't seem to be working for me now - last night or this morning so far... :(

If you've not got too many entries, there's another way I've just discovered too - I've copied a couple of ljs into Word docs simply by Copy-Pasting the page! I have my ljs set to viewing at least 20 entries at a time, which makes it a bit quicker. You have to expand any lj cuts, but it takes the pictures as well. Laborious if you've got dozens and dozens of lj-pages full of entries to do, but it would save them? And the beauty is that you can save other ljs this way too, even if you don't own them.

There's apparently also an lj-based lj exporter, but you can only do a month at a time, and it comes out as a spreadsheet.

DW says they allow two sticky posts per account, but I don't know how to do them there.

And at the moment LJ doesn't allow DW to rescue my data. :-(

Yeah, I think you can do them, it just doesn't import your sticky posts as sticky posts, so you have to find them again!

Dw was working to import my lj a few days ago, but I've been having problems the last couple of days - I wonder if it might be so many people trying that it's making it harder too, when it sounds like there were already issues... :(

You have the same problem as me too, I think - so many pictures in my posts! Dw doesn't import pictures anyway, only the links from lj, so if the links vanish, then we've lost them that way. Really the best thing I've found (via CuriousWombat) is BlogBooker...

I'm hoping this turns out to be all for nothing. I'm not even sure DW took the import. It's saying waiting for various verifications. But I'm not really concerned about it, since most of my stuff is somewhere else (AO3, Goodreads, etc.)

My problem is that all my images are in the LJ Scrapbook and if I loose that there won't be any of them in my AO3 posts anymore. I think I have to go and search for another option for hosting my images. :-|

Nothing's safe though - do you remember when everyone used Photobucket because it was a nice safe site, and then it put everyone's pictures behind a wall and made you pay to access them, which most people didn't and so that was the end of that. And we lost all the pics in lj that had been on Photobucket... Waah!

I'm hoping so too - I think it'll be sanctions on our side that block us rather than Russia blocking out little bit of lj, which I presume is on a separate chunk of servers because I suddenly can't see any of the Cyrillic posts at all, and they use to come up on the lj home screen.

When I backed up to dw (and it worked) I found I had to hit the Refresh link to see the progress for the import - sounds like maybe that's what you need to do to see if it worked (and you can go back to the import page whenever you like and do that, because it takes you back to your last import).

My lj is really like a diary for the last 17 years, so I would have been sad to lose it and never be able to look back (and I do look back at my old posts sometimes!)

I don't have any problems with LJ at the moment, so I keep my fingers crossed that it was your internet and not LJ. ;-)
