Your photos are bloody brilliant! And a kingfisher or two!

How exiting, that you have more money than expected! What's the new hobby? :)

The mould on the other hand...

Thank you! When it's pretty like this, though, all you really have to do is stand somewhere and press the button... *g*

It's so unusual for me to have spare money (and it's not really, because it should go towards next year's tax...) The potential new hobby is... erm... metal detecting... *g* I don't get to do archaeology, but I could do that on my own (or with clubs) - and it'd be an outdoor exercising hobby too! Archaeologists get wound up about it, but at the end of the day if it's done properly and responsibly, then I don't see that they lose any information (and the irresponsible people are going to be there whatever - they're in archaeology too) and in fact they gain an awful lot because they can't dig everywhere (no time or money) and knowing where the little dropped coins and things are helps create a broader picture... Plus it looked so peaceful in the tv series! *g*

As you say - the mould on the other hand... *sighs* It's really cold here this morning - -5C!!! - and my windows are covered in condensation... *sighs*

After clicking on the link to the show, I thought metal detecting might be the new hobby! *g*

Maybe we'll check out the show. Several people have said it's good!

The mould! Since you think a dehumidifier would drive you batty (btw, it heats, while dehumidifying), maybe you could try something like this: https://byemould.com/2017/09/04/homemade-dehumidifier/

Edited to add:

Mr. Siskiou and I watched the first two episodes and liked it. Are there really clubs like that around?

And coincidentally, I went for a quick trip to the coast yesterday, and for the first time ever, saw a guy with a metal detector! I spoke to him and his wife, and it was his first day doing detecting. *g* They didn't know the show, but allowed me to post their picture.

So glad you liked the show! I did wonder if it was one of those ones that was almost so England-centric that it might not always make sense to other people, but probably it's got nuances that add stuff but is still brilliant... *g* I love the theme song too, I have to say.

I've not managed to find any clubs so far, at least not nearby, that have space for new members or apparent real-life meetings. There must be some though - I can only hope they're like the clubi in Detectorists... *g ( ... )

Thank you! Although when it's this pretty I really only have to stand there and click the button... *g* Do feel free to use the pic as wallpaper!

Kingfishers are always a treat. So glad you’ve seen one, or two. Beautiful photos, as always!

There are supposed to be some around a stream near-(ish) where I live too, but I've never seen even a hint of them there. Maybe one day - this has reaffirmed my belief in kingfishers! *g*

The photos are beautiful. Is that Glastonbury Tor looking all mysterious in the distance?

Re the fungus: Have you considered a dehumidifier? There's an initial cost, of course, and I don't know how much power they suck up compared to space heaters, but it might be something to look into.

Thank you! Really all I had to do was stand and press a button since it was that pretty last night... *g* That is indeed Glastonbury Tor! And the Bishops Palace in Wells, and Wells Cathedral.

I briefly thought about a humidifier, but the constant hum would drive me batty (I have tinnitus) and as you say it would be using even more electricity... I'll try keeping the heating on in that room more (which at least would heat it at the same time as using the electricity!) and I've bought some theoretically de-humidifying houseplants to try and help...

Somewhere, somewhen, read a kingfisher described as "a jewel in a hurry".

That's the perfect description - I love it! *g*
