Weekends in the dark...

Good morning! I was ever so lazy today, and woke up whilst the skies were just lightening - sunrise proper wasn't until 7.55am.

If the government and all those pressure groups that sulked at the defeat of the daylight savings bill last week had their way - it would still be dark now for another hour.

I cannot tell you how much I hate that idea ( Read more... )

I couldn't agree more. We need daylight to get us started in the morning. We can all veg out in the evening as it gets darker. Think of all the outdoors-y people like farmers as well as the rush hour commuters - feeding animals etc. is hard enough in the daylight, let alone if there was another dark hour.

We (globally) mess around with so much in our environment. We can't physically change the daylight times, so let's go with artificial changes instead!

My oft-repeated mantra at the moment is, "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should."

Rant finished - think I'll join you in coffee!

It's bizarre, isn't it - and you know I tried googling to find a group opposed to the bill that I could join, and couldn't find any! I've finally come across this post from March last year - it's the Tory Reform Group, of all things, talking sense about something! Is it that the sites don't exist, because the vast majority of people are a) gullible and b) short-sighted, or is it that google won't pick up pages from people who oppose the idea? I've not actually met anyone who thinks it's a good idea, despite the way googling makes it look so popular - which is worrying in itself...

Apparently the farmers etc are less worried about losing the daylight now than they were on all the other occasions it was proposed - because they have better access to light and heat in their cowsheds etc now. So bang goes the environmental argument too...
