Impressed with the Beeb...

Jul 17, 2009 16:44

So, checking out the Beeb's weather forecast for today, I had a brief wee giggle that they'd predicted thunderstorms for 1.00pm - and yet it was thunder and lightning-y at 10 to noon. I've just been thinking about going home, and the heavens have opened with more thunder storms - it's quarter to five. The Beeb had also predicted thunderstorms ( Read more... )

Oh god, what a day it's been - it was torrential rain at 6am, it's torrential rain now at 8.30pm and it hasn't abated for one single solitary minute all day. It's so bloody dark and miserable now that I'm almost tempted to put the gas fire on just to cheer the place up a bit.

Sorry to hear the the cold's still lingering, if I were you I'd get tucked up in bed with a stack of zines, a few hot toddies and the lads (on a dvd, I hasten to add...)

Fingers crossed that your weekend plans aren't thwarted by the weather yet again!

Gaaah - of course the trouble with storms out our way is that they tend to knock off our internet, so I've been without the interweb since I got home yesterday - waaah! At least it's back this morning... *g*

It's gone all windy but sunny here this morning - today's supposed to be nice I think (for driving out west and driving greengerbil mad with my cough all night... eep) but Sunday's looking a bit dodgy - *headdesk*

I went to bed with Torchwood S1 eps last night, but I'd bought whisky for a hot toddy too by now, so that was all good... *g* Now if you'd offered me the lads without the dvds... *g*

Is it the Fairford Air Tattoo this weekend?

In total contraast, here we make our own fun, at, wait for it!, the Welshpool Air Show, which is tomorrow. Friends who live near the airfield always have a barbie from where we can watch the planes and the parachute display. Except the weather isn't looking good at all, for airshow or barbie.

Hope your plans go well.

Lol - I actually have tended to prefer smaller airshows to the big ones so far (the big one being various Duxford airshows), so I bet you have a fab time not-attending the Welshpool Air Show! Except for that weather thing... eek!

The storm knocked out our internet all last night, so this is the first time I've got back online since I was at work yesterday - ack! The weather is now all windy but blue skyed and sunny over here - shall be heading off west in a few hours though, so hoping it's nicer south of you!

There should be some sort of law that says the weekends must have fine weather. (On the other hand, a wet weekend is a wonderful excuse to stay indoors at the pc, or catching up on dvd watching.)

Well, I quite like being indoors, all cosy, when it's wet out - but when you're out and it's wet... We did get rained on, on Sunday, but it was kind of fun to watch everyone hunkering down under their umbrellas, stoically determined to stay and see the airshow no matter what might happen! *g*

Having been MIA I have no idea why you are searching for Torchwood or what you've already found but can I rec Lazuli whose site is http://lazuli.kat.users.btopenworld.com/index.htm
I adored Attrition and her short stuff is very good. I'm about to start on Hourglass, which people say is good but I avoid WIPs and she only just finished it.

You have been MIA! Are you home now? How's everything? Good I hope!

And yeay, TW fic rec, thank you! I've found a bunch of good stories (and lots of scary looking ones that I can barely glance at), but I'm still looking for more - and ooh, she seems to write long stories, which is fab, so thank you extra! *g* My favourite so far is one by dsudis, I think - if only I could remember what it was called... but it was long too! *g* Who else have I found? Copperbadge, Giddygeek, Out-There, Kaneko...

I'm home for a bit. All is well, if frantic. I am about to post an account on my LJ of our web access problems. When I look on my other laptop I will find some more Torchwood recs. I bought a new laptop to leave in Portugal with the idea that eventually I would use one or the other as an extra hard drive for backups - but the screen is too reflective to let me use it without the shutters closed... so home it came and I am dithering between laptops not sure what is on which for now!!

I must catch up with the Reading Room, too. Five weeks is a long time to be offline!

Eep for web access problems! Yeay for two laptops, though I know what you mean about the reflective screen thing - I was really put off by it when I bought my new one, but there's very little choice these days... I've got used to it, but it still annoys me...

Shall look forward to more recs - cheers!

Reading Room was interesting this week - I recced Velvet Underground by Sebastian, and was gobsmacked by the number of people who thought it was a rape/non-con fic... How is it that people don't read in context?!

Anyway - enjoy being home for a while!
