Questions, questions, questions...

Good morning! Feeling much more alive - now that it's time to go back to work... *headdesk* Actually I did yesterday too, and got lots of sort-y out things done, which was fab. And then just as I was going to settle in to catch up on emails...

Is anyone else having problems with googlemail? My googlemail is ridiculously slow right now - it's ( Read more... )

In haste:
I am a member of OTW and can try to sort out problem or find someone who will but only if it still exists when I get home - so after May 11th contact me again if necessary
Amazon furore - I almost enjoyed all the rumours about fundamentalists trolling poor ickle Amazon for Easter weekend and the rumours about Amazon putting pressure on indie presses to re-sign and worship Kindle - and the spoof 'it was me;it was a hoax/revenge/boredom thing' posts and blogs. The idiots, I confidently believe, are in California and this is about the third mammoth idiocy this year - and it's only April!!!
Glad you are better. Stay well!!!

Thanks - it's not a major problem or anything, though - just the sort of thing you want to send a quick email to someone about to say "Hey, did you realise..." There must be some way of doing that for Fanlore, surely?

Not heard of other Amazon idiocy - what's all that about then? Any big company is going to have its fair share of idiocy I think, it's how they deal with it that's telling..!

I know the person who did that edit - she used to be on lj under a different name but has since gone to IJ where I have a reading account. If you want, I could pm her with your preferred entry info, I'm sure she would fix it. Actually, I'll pm you, she may still have notifications set up for her lj.

am aching to catch up on all the other lj happenings over Easter but I'm up to my armpits in washing & airing reenactor gear *sigh*

You're a star (not read your message yet!) - I did see who the editor was actually, and was wondering how to get in touch when lo and behold she's gone and got another lj after all, and joined loiteringpalely, so I shall catch her there too! *g*

Ack for washing and airing, but hope you had a lovely time with the reenacting! *vbg*

Re: Red Shirt Press

You know, I had every intention of submitting a story, but I admit I completely forgot about them. They were very quiet in my opinion. I've been tribbing to zines for over eight years and I've never tribbed six months in advance for editing. Now if that's how they work, that's fine. But I generally trib a month or so before deadline and the zine is usually out in a month or two. I think their timeline is a bit long and it didn't stick out to me on the two posts I saw. I think I remember seeing one on zinelist a while back.

Anyway, I'm surprised there's not enough time from say May lst to CQ in JUly to put out a zine but that's me. I don't publish zines myself, but I would hope that everybody who tribs sends in an edited story . I know I'd never send in anything but a finished product, and then the publisher can say yes or no to the story. The story should be 99 percent finished as far as I'm concerned, and only needs a quick read for any stray booboos.

But I'm weird that way. (Glad you're feeling better!)

I agree about the trust issue. Having been burned three or four times with publishers, I'm rather careful. And I refuse to let a story languish while somebody keeps telling me the zine will come out on thus and such a date and it never materialises even after several more delays and deadlines. (This is not referring in any way to Red Shirt Press!)

Also I did have a time when an editor edited and published without letting me see the final product. When I read the zine, I was highly irritated at the changes made without my approval. All I ask is the right to say yes or no. Then they have the right to tell me my story is or is not acceptable. I'm cool with that.

I do believe that a publisher needs to keep in touch with the bases. I'd say a monthly post isn't uncalled for. I don't find that excessive. Just a friendly reminder of what zines are out there looking for stories. And that's in any fandom. Publishers don't know who's working on what and they need to remind writers they're actively searching for tribs.
