Of course the most famous temples in South India are Madurai and Tirupati, but T-Bone had been to Madurai about a half dozen times before and Thirupati was geographically out of my range. The sculptures are something! I never been able to imagine the kind of hardwork and patience that must go into building something like this. And South India is full of such examples.

On a slightly unrelated note, your posts in the past few months leave me with no doubt that you have been traveling to different places in India. What's the whole plan? Are you on a traveling for fun? Do you do this kind of thing often? Pray tell.

I am traveling for fun on vacations, but someday I want to be bi-continental and live in the usa and india. Right now I only get to get away to India once a year ;-(

I think I've seen that, or some other temple very much like it, in a Tamil film song picturization. Impressive stuff, truly. :)

it's always weird to see western influences like coca cola captured in the same photo as a majestic indian temple, as in the second photo. that colorful contrast of culture makes it the quintessential snapshot of india as i remember it.
