The Garden Gate At Zolac Manor

We just got our new garden gate!

Our friend, MF, did a wonderful job creating a garden gate. The initial concept was a mere gleam in my eyes and those of radiobastet's, but MF took the scrap of paper we came up with and delivered an iron entrance to our outdoor world at home!

MF has been working on for several weeks...bending ir, welding it, braising it, sanding it, cutting it, sculpting it.

This is, of course, just the beginning of our work on the yard...but what a great start! Next task...get new posts... and post caps... and cement and paint...to begin what I hope will be a nice picket fence.

We aren't really sure how we will leave the "finish." Right now we will probably let it get an iron oxide patina and then when it looks just right lacquer it to freeze it that way and halt the oxidation process.

Eventually we may add more design elements to the gate. The ones there are very cool, though! MF had to get new metal working tools and also different types of iron to finish the job. For instance, the musical staff was created from some square metal pieces, the cat's tail from reebar, the gate perimeter of hard rolled ir rod and the Martini Glass, 3 Moon symbol, the bike wheels, etc. was from iron sheets. The glass started as a rough cut, but MF got a new tool called a nibbler which allowed him to make much more precise and even cuts through the sheet.
