"Hyung, are you listening to me?"

He had to find her.

"Hyuuuung, seriously, have you been ignoring me this entire time?! I need someone to hang out with at midnight. I'll look totally lame if I'm just standing out there on my own."

He had to find her.

Gaze flickering to his side, Lee Jinki took in the younger boy at his side. His smaller frame stretched upward to get a better look at his surroundings; he probably had that same the same intentions at hand as he did. He wanted to find someone to ring in the New Year with, but his target hadn't been acquired yet. Hell, it wasn't even known - which was why he was nagging him like he was. Jinki understood, he really did. Jonghyun had a tendency to cling onto the people around him, whether they liked it or not, and normally he was fine with that, but... tonight. Tonight was different

People always said the a new year meant that the proverbial door of new opportunities would open up to one and all, and he assumed that he was part of that equation somehow. It meant that you could take a step closer to your wildest of dreams, or even the simplest of, coming true if you wanted to. That was exactly it though: he had to be the one who took the first step. No one was going to hold what he wanted out for him on a silver platter to grab.

It wasn't like they could if they wanted to anyway. He'd never exactly been vocal about what he wanted before. It was as good as a secret.

(To everyone but Minho, but he'd picked up on it with that creepy perceptiveness of his. There was no stopping it.)

"Hyung."

A sigh escaped his lips, exasperated, as a he forced a smile at the other boy. "Jonghyun, you know I'd stay here with you but I have to find someone. I think I see FT Island sunbae's over there, you should... uh..., go over there. Please."

Watching as the face of his group mate's soured, "You're no fun, hyung," he mumbled before twisting to the side and making a dash for the suggested "company"

The older felt a small pang of guilt for his handling of the situation, which disappeared almost as quickly as it came to be as he eyes flashed at the digital clock hovering at the other end of the stage.

Four minutes.

He had four minutes to find her.

There was no more time for procrastinating, for trying to decipher whether or not those smiles she sent to him every time they crossed paths were simply linked to her sunshine and daisies demeanor or if there was something more there.

He'd wondered time and time again if it was all wishful thinking. It would have made sense; he'd always been one to build up hopes, dreams and desire inside of himself, whether he acted on it or not. He'd considered pulling her to the side and just saying how he felt, pouring his heart into her hands but there was no knowing whether she'd be there to catch his feelings. Or if he'd drown her with the confession.

What if she didn't feel the same way?

The thought alone was enough to make him halt his step, eyes flickering from one end of the crowded stage to the next, failing to spot her chestnut locks. God, why was this so difficult? He hadn't even caught a glimpse of any of the other girls; no sign of Sulli, no sign of Krystal, none of Victoria and even Amber was nowhere to be found.

Maybe that was sign enough to give up. He only had a two minutes left anyway.

"Jinki, are you lost?"

The disembodied voice shook him from his worries, his neck craning to the side to get a look at who it had come from. A flash of pearly white teeth and friendly wave later, he registered the face - Victoria. "Ah, noona. No, I'm..., I was looking for someone." He was looking for someone that she could probably help him find. One name, he just needed to say her name and Victoria could possibly guide him in the right direction

Opening his mouth to speak up, he felt his voice catch in his throat, his eyes darkening over as he spotted the clock again: one minute. He wasn't going to make it on time. His shoulder slumped visibly at the realization, heaving a sigh

Readying himself to turn back in the direction of the other members, or to find a corner to hide in until the celebrating was done with, he felt himself grow more alert as his noona took a step in his direction, raising her hand upward to push him forward. His eyebrow turning upward in confusion at her action, he watched as her finger begun to jab forward irrationally. Was she... pointing at something? At someone?

Turning his head to focus on what she was so adamant about, his eyes widened

There she was.

... off on the sidelines? Why wasn't she with any of the other girls? With any of her friends?

Shrugging off this new influx of questions, he picked up where he had left off on less than a minute earlier - one, two, three, four, five steps before moving into a full dash. Circling around a metal barricade (and small group of confused security guards), his hand curved quickly but lightly around the waist of Sunyoung, using his other to grip onto a nearby stage curtain

The press would have a field day if they found out.

After a moment of silence, Jinki finally begun to register what he had done - feeling that same rush of nervousness that had plagued him earlier flush back over him. The small, shocked yip that Sunyoung let out at his sudden move just doubled that feeling. She could have been totally repulsed right then and he'd have no idea; she would have been too nice to say anything on the spot, to crush him like that.

"Jinki oppa?"

Her voice, usually bellowing and fully of bright energy, had been reduced to something much smaller, something confused. His brow furrowed at this; was that a bad thing? She was probably just surprised, but...

"I was trying to find you a few minutes ago but you weren't with your friends."

She'd been trying to find him? Well, that was certainly... some sort of relief.

He felt rejuvenated at the revelation; his fingers gripping around the soft material of her stage outfit.

Ten...

Something in her eyes changed as he took a step forward, their kneecaps knocking together. It was warm and inviting, the Sunyoung that he had grown to know and possibly love.

Nine...

"Oppa?"

Eight, seven, six, five...

He was probably ruining the moment, but he wanted to take it in for all it was worth. Every little bit of it; from that look she was giving him to the way she felt under his grip.

Four...

"Oppa, if you're going to kiss me, you should do it before midnight. I didn't want to go without bei-..." Moving forward, he cut her off, free hand sliding down her forearm to her slender hand, fingers lacing through her own as their lips brushed.

Three...

It was quick and chaste, but enough to get the point across. His eyes opened in time to catch hers doing the same, eyelashes fluttering in a way that made his stomach swirl, expression taking over something like disappointment as the crowd shrieked out an excitable "two".

Oh god, what if it hadn't been what she'd expected it to be? He was a terrible kisser; that had to be it. He'd totally plummeted her expectations, there was no coming back from this one.

He was so lame, lame, lame, la-...

One.

As the crowd begun to cheer, he felt her petite frame slam back into his, her surprising amount of force causing his body to tip backward against the stage wall. Their lips meshed together again as the men and women on the other side of the curtain cried and cheered, ringing in the new year, her giggling drowning out the sound of dozens

It felt like they were stuck in that position for hours, and they very well could have been, before she pulled back - all teeth and cheeks brushed with a light pink that contrasted beautifully with her winter coat

"Sunyoung," he let out, a vague smile crossing his features.

But she didn't respond - she just continued to smile that same smile before beginning to step backward toward the curtain, throwing him a small wink before disappearing on the other end.

Happy New Year?
