On weight loss...

I used to be teeny. Really. Before my transplant, I topped out at about 98 lbs. (That's about 45 kilos for my metric buddies.) So yeah, itty bitty ( Read more... )

My recommendation: buy a Brita pitcher and a nice steel water bottle (because apparently the plastic ones leach into the water). Then you're only shelling out once and you can drink nice clean water on the cheap.

Also, more power to you. I've been trying to convince myself to actually do something about my weight for years. Go for it. :D

Those Brita pitchers, you just fill them up with tap water and they filter out all the gross stuff, right? Where do you get them and about how much do they run?

It took me forever the first time around to do something about it. This time is easier because I remember how hard it was to lose all the weight before and I don't want all the fat to get too comfy this time around.

Yup. I don't know where you'd be able to get them where you are, but up here you can find them at pretty much any store that sells kitchen stuff, I think. This is the one I have, so if you can't find one locally you could just order one. There are classy shiny ones that can cost up to $45, but a cheap one's all you really need.

Yeah... I'm a little too comfortable in my largeness. I think the time has come.

It's really all a matter of putting your mind to it, really. I favor the small portions and exercise approach rather than the 'deprive yourself of anythng good.' It takes more self control, but I love food too much to limit myself to only bland diet food.

I suggest picking up fruit platters. The really big ones that are 10 pounds and cost $30. They work wonders if you have ziploc baggies and portion everything out. Might last you two weeks, if you're careful.

I make my own. See, I don't really like 'normal' fruit like apples and oranges and grapes-the stuff that fruit platters you buy normally use to make the bulk of their platters. I like the exotic tropical fruit like papaya, mango, starfruit, kiwi, blood oranges and all of those yummy things. And they're never in fruit platters, or if they are, there are precisely two pieces.

So I go buy all of my own fruit, slice it up, put it in my own little tupperware containers and then take it to work with me and munch on it at my desk.

I did learn the hard way that you should not eat mango OR peach after brushing your teeth with Crest extra whitening toothpaste. I had to switch toothpaste so that I could continue to enjoy my breakfast.

oh wow... you're REALLY specific ^_^

me, I'm happy with the fruit platters we can get at Costco... grapes, cantaloupe, honeydew, strawberries and pineapple.

eww at the toothpaste bit... I remember that well from when I was using Listerine toothpaste.

We don't have a costco. We've got Walmart. And they cheap out on fruit platters. Better to make your own.
