15 - The blur effect used is awkward and it is difficult to tell who the subject is.
12 - The outline effect on the subject does not add to the icon but instead makes it look awkward.
11 - The definition and details on the bird has been lost because the icon is too bright and does not have enough contrast.

17 - The text fits well and the sharpening is just right.
1 - I really like the amount of contrast and the simplicity of the icon.

Can you elaborate on your second least vote, please? How is the crop awkward?

The crop is awkward because it flattens the image.

I'm really sorry to be such an ass, but can I get a bit more elaboration? Your reasons don't quite match up. How you've worded your sentence is along the lines of 'an ant can carry twenty times its body weight but root beer floats are still delicious'. While the two clauses both have legitimate reasons, they're not particularly comparative and thus aren't elaborating on either clause.

If you need more pointers, please don't hesitate to ask. :)

02 - The fade to white on the right seems too abrupt in cutting off the side of the image, and it draws the eye to the side of his hair rather than his face.
04 - The icon doesn't have enough brightness to contrast with the duller colors, meaning that nothing in it really "pops" or draws the eye. The two images don't seem to mesh and the transition from his chin/mouth to the top of his hat is jarring.
12 - The glow on the main image's sides call attention to the fact that it's cut out, and it doesn't blend well with the background, which is somewhat metallic-looking and distracting.

06 - Great composition, and Keira Knightley's character stands out well from the background.
17 - Lovely use of text.

##12 - I'm not sure what the icon is of, I'm presuming Keira? The background looks very odd with the glowing line around the subject, it gives the effect of bad-cut-out/crop. The crop off to the side, at such a distant makes it hard to understand what's happening in the icon + provide a focus.
##04 - the black + white tones are underexposed + the two images don't mesh well together, perhaps if there was a smoother line between the two crops?
##14 - very interesting crop but the contrast is too high, loosing definition in the blacks (his moustache) + whites (his nose)

Favorite Icon
##16 - interesting focus + perfect sharpening
##01 - while i think that sharp corner'r would've complimented the repeated square, overall the composition and tones are great.

#5 - much, much, much too dark! the only thing, that can be seen is where his face starts and the background ends, but that's not enough!
#3 - if i didn't knew before, that the icon should present a bird, i wouldn't know at all what that is... honestly it looks like a flower or something...
#6 - because of the crop her face is a bit blurry... and the icon could be a bit more bright...

Favorite Icon
#17 - the use of text is really nice and the crop is not bad either :)
#4 - the idea of blending two pictures is unique and the icons stands out of the rest here :)
