Thank you so much for the (really great) feedback. I was a bit afraid that the genderfucked sex would put everyone off the story, since (while it's common in some fandoms) I don't see it popping up much in Doctor Who!
The sex itself was fabulous, and paced extremely well (moving along with enough momentum to capture the arousal involved, but slow enough to make it feel satisfying emotionally, for both the reader and Jack and the Doctor), but the ongoing mind games the Doctor was playing with himself was riveting and done so, so well.
The Doctor's head really does start in a very, very screwed up place in the beginning of the fic.
Your choice (the Doctor's choice) of Jack to 'break in' his new body was perfect, because just as the Doctor realized, Jack would be the only person who could truly understand what he was going through, both emotionally and physically. And although it was clearly a bit hard for Jack to accept where the Doctor's mind was, it was also wonderful of him to talk about Rose while they were involved, ( ... )

Around this part, I thought "You're not going there": He reached up and ruffled Jack's hair, almost wistfully. His eyelids slid halfway shut and he saw the reflection of them over Jack's shoulder - a dark-haired man holding tightly to a blonde woman - and his mind wandered, just a little.
...and, then, you totally did. With Doctor imagining what Rose and his clone's lives were like in Pete's World, as if he were some sort of fanfic writer. While using Jack as his surrogate and, um, himself as Rose's substitute. (Reviewing this story is hell on pronouns.)
Overall, though, this fic was surprisingly sweet for a concept that is totally screwed up.

Hee. Thanks. I do have to say that it wasn't my idea. I'm just the crazy person who ran with it and tried to make that particular crazy regeneration idea actually make sense with the Doctor's characterization!

Oh, yes, I totally went there. This fic existed so that I could go there.
Overall, though, this fic was surprisingly sweet for a concept that is totally screwed up.Again, thank you very much. ( ... )

The poignancy of the Doctor watching' a dark-haired man holding tightly to a blonde woman'. Genius!
Even in crack-fic, I need my emotional continuity.
Also, I hope you don't mind me adding you to my flist. =)
Not at all! It's nice to meet you.

And that's a really nice TARDIS.

I wonder, was this the Doctor finally letting go of Rose, too? Since s/he did manage to call out Jack's name at one point?
(As for Ianto, they're not serious. Ianto even said so - 'dabbling', 'it's not what you think'. No reason why Jack should worry about leaving him for the Doctor! *grin* )

Thank you!
And, as a multishipper whose preferences include Doctor/Rose/Jack and Doctor/Jack, I don't even see it as crack. It's tender and poignant and beautiful, and I'm happy that both Jack and the Doctor have each other to care about and be there for company. And that they'll never forget Rose. :)
Yeah, the initial idea was crack (Ten regenerates into Billie Piper! Dude! Crazy wacky fun!) but it's actually managed to make itself into a viable emotional universe. Stories can be sneaky that way.
I wonder, was this the Doctor finally letting go of Rose, too? Since s/he did manage to call out Jack's name at one point?A definitive answer for that would depend on whether or not I write a further sequel. I think that it shows that he's begun the process of letting go, for sure. But I think it's probably subjective enough to be flexible, at least at this point ( ... )
